Geezer you mentioned Jim Rhea. I met Jim at the very first Street Rod Nationals East, it wasn't even called that yet. At the college in Rockville MD. He took us to his shop and showed me his beautiful 41 Willys coupe that he had chopped the top on. He gave me some 8x10 pics that I have hanging on my wall and am looking at right now. Is he still around, I'd like to say hello to him again.

I'm responding to your message regarding the Willys. In the late 60s, I remember as a kid riding past this car on Arcola Avenue which runs between University Boulvard and Georgia Avenue in Wheaton, Maryland. The car sat in front of a guy named John Koutsos house. He also had a maroon ranchero with a straight front axle and an orange plexi glass windows. If you can get ahold of Mr. Koutsos he can give you all the information you want about this car.

P.S. Remember this car a few years ago sitting on a used car lot in Southern Maryland went back the next day to inquire about the car but it was gone and I couldnt get any information. Good Luck!

...thank you for the info / lead . I will follow up on it , may have been one his (Gus) cousins as I understand it went to a cousin after it left his mothers . But sitting at the car lot is a question as the guy I got it from has had it since 2000 , maybe like all of us a few years go by faster than we think (or want ) .

Yeah your right time does fly, maybe it was the late 90's but I am curious why the car was down here and I never did see it again. Oh well I guess time will tell, I do have a lot of slides from the 60's D.C. armory car shows maybe some pictures will develope.

..........most of the history points in the direction of Gus passing and his cousins having some fun with the car. If anyone ever finds a pic or two of it in his garage or at the show or sneeking down the track please contact me . I got the car from Bill C as Dave Hale pointed out . Bill had welded in the forward roll bars to make it a 6 point set up and ran it at the Willys home run one time . I have cut these out as they weren't in the car back in "66" . Being the "time capsule "that this is I am not going to do anything to change the car . There is a guy interested in buying it for a museum and that may be the way to go .
Thought you might like to see some more pics of the rest of the car . Thanks to all for getting me the info I have and hope the pics bring a smile to you true Gasser lovers.

NOOOO...I know money talks and B.S. walks, and yes it easy for me to say don't do it, as its not my car. But how many original gassers, are you gona find in a life time? That thing is ment to run free, not be locked away in a museum. I think if you get rid of it, your gona regret it.Then again as I said before, its not my car or my money, but just my .02 cents

  12. Thanks for those latest pics! That car is special to have survived like it did. Good move to keep it as it was.

Have you had a chance to look through the slides of the D.C. car show? I'd love to see any pics you might have. Mike

  16. Awesome thread, ...that looks to be a very well built and detailed car for that era, hard to believe it wasn't run much if at all.
I have a friend in Maryland who mite know something about this car; I'll get ahold of him and see.
    Thanks for posting !

He has been trying to get the 75k for a long time. Seems like a great car but perhaps the fact that it was never run down a track is holding it back??

.....actually the car ran for a couple years but not competitively , the cousin of Gus ran the car but couldn't get it to go very well .
I got the car running, driving ,registered ,and title . Decided to go with a TR1 and carters to make it more streetable than the injection .
