As a tattoo artist I've always got my eye out for a good trade. This is the most recent. I don't know much about T's but I know some "work" has been done to this one. My questions are: Original bed? Or off a later model pickup? Right door is welded shut and left appears to have never had an actual door, but like it was stamped in the body? Sorry, pics are kindof small and dissregard my big stupid finger in the 2nd picture Im thinkin it's worth having around for $4-$500 in tattoos...opinions??
That is an earlier model T. My guess is around 23 as said above. I ran into a 91 year old man in a nearby town who has alot of model T cars and parts. He tells me the reason for the driver side not having a door and only a door looking stamp is because the women who rode p***enger needed a door. Men could hop over the top. I don't know if that is true or not but my guess is you are looking at a few hundred bucks there. The body doesn't look like much but those beds go for a bit alone.
imo 4-500 worth of trade's probably ok--but not if you expect to flip it. last t I sold went for 600. and 4-600 seems to be the norm in these parts--yours looks a little better, though. if you're gonna keep it then probably well worth it. I always look at things like this as is it worth at least the sum of the parts.
cars were VERY new at that time. the single door kept cost down and kept the dumb ones from climbin out into traffic. my body started as a phaeton with 3 doors. apparently, henry didnt care if the rear p***enger climbed into traffic.. dunno bout the bed. looks too wide to be a T bed but thats just me. were i you, i'd start layin down the ink! tell him you'lldo3 bills worth and go from there.
Actually, if you've ever driven a pre '26 "T", you'll find real quick that the easiest way to get behind the wheel is via the p***enger side. Try to go through a door like the earliest "T"s and your feet get all tangled up in the pedals and steering column. As far as value, I think about 3-500 is going to be good money on this one. The bed looks to be '28-'31 Model "A" stuff, and it has been shortened so much that the buying audience might be a bit light. The whole batch however is a great start on an early sixties styled "T" bucket! If you dig out all your early sixties west coast mags you'll see a bunch of them. And they all pretty much followed the pattern that you have sitting there. Bed looks just about the right length to clone the Monagram " Big T"
I can't tell from the pictures, but that might be the front half of a "T" touring. even better for an early "T" bucket! Oh, judging by the lip on the top edge of the seat it's a '25.
If it's solid and not been *******ized with road sign patches and inch thick bondo, it's worth the trade. I wouldn't pay $500 hard cash, but if you can trade a couple hours worth of labor then I think you'll both come out happy IMO.
maybe in tennessee... I would say maybe $1000 Its a real steel body and original bed. I would ****** that up for 500.00 all day long. Looks a lot like the T I just sold.
So it's no 27? 23-25', Later model bed which I had ***umed, I believe it's welded on too. It's got some bondo, but nothing that couldn't be cleaned up. Definately worth a few hours of work and if all else, it will look cool in my back yard haha
Hightone, do you have a side on profile shot of it? I'd like to see if it's a touring front half or a roadster. Hell, I'd be toe dancing if someone offered to trade that with me! And yes, as close as I can see I believe it's a '25. I know it to be a '23 - '25, but '25 only has a different return at the top of the seat to reinforce it. Wish we were a bit closer, I'd work a trade with you for it!
Nope, those were the three pics I got of it last night. I'm gonna go for it. It'll cost me about 3-4 hour and maybe $30/supplies. Might end up with a new customer too!
The box looks (need better picture) to be a Model A (28-early 31) that's been shortened. A Model T box looks similar but has a raised stamped reveal where the fender would mouut, whereas a Model A uses a Stamped rail riveted to the box. The body is earlier as others stated 23-25.
on sacramento (CA) craigslist there are two PU ads listed under auto parts For Sale: 29 Model a-$2300 & Original Steel "T" Bucket +++
Yeh, the firewall is too small for a '23 to '25. Pre mid '22. The earliest Ford-made steel pickup bed was 1925 and did not have the "raised" impressions on the bed sides for rear fender mounting as did the '26 and '27 beds. All the beds from '25 to early '31 are the same dimensions - the only component that interchanges correctly is the tailgate. It is difficult to see in the pictures, but I would say you're looking at the '25 bed. If it has a reinforcement plate welded on the inside of the bed side to support the top of the fender ( the upper fender brace), it's a '25 and fairly rare. The "no-door" left side: Canadian manufactured Model T bodies were built with a functioning left door so that they could be exported to countries that drove on the "wrong" side of the road and consequently had the steering wheel on the right hand side.
Tailgate could be worth 50-100. If the door is good 100. If the floor is solid I would say 300-500 for it. Good Luck! -
