Well there won't be a dragster in my future at the HAMB drags this year. At the KKOA drag race tonight, I was making some newbie sorts of mistakes getting the digger running but I got past them. When she did start she ran a four or five seconds and bang, but she was still running. I shut it off to see a new window in the pan, gravel sized bits of piston and a bent up rod bearing on the ground. The bearing shows no signs of spinning.

Some of my safety equipment hadn't made it here in time so I had called Tom Hannah and borrowed some older gloves and boots. After returning them, Tom was very encouraging. It helps a lot coming from him. There were others who understood as well but the guys coming up and joking about my EPA dump and other things... let's just say I was not in the mood for it!

I packed up shop and headed home. Not sure if I'm going back tomorrow or not. I should but right now I'm just done. :-/

    Sorry to hear that man.

That's drag racing though. Break it, rebuild it, break it, rebuild it.

Sorry to hear about the rod coming out of the pan, you will learn from this weekend. I remember the first time I took my dragster out had the newibe blues too, I learned something every weekend that first year at the strip. You'll get it right faster then you think, good luck in the furture.

  7. ... That's why I went back to Hot Rods... Racing can get painfully expensive!

Is it a blown fuel motor? Did it bang out of the pipes or the supercharger?
It really ****s to hurt it on the stands, but it happens.
I remember hearing a old story about Micky Thompson i think. He put a rod out on the stands and broke his foot, any one hear that before? JC

I don't know who said it first but I like it. "It's just one of those racing deals". Not much consolation but if you enter the "race" the lumps WILL come. Learn and move on or find another money pit (there are a lot of them out there, pick your poison)

No venting Trent, but I'm tempted to bury my head in the sand for a while. I'll probably pull the neglected coupe out tomorrow morning, give her a good wash, and head back to KKOA to hang out with friends. Can't think of better therapy.

You gonna make it down for the HAMB drags this year?

****s...sorry to hear it. Like most things though - if it was EASY any nitwit would do it. Let the nitwits chuckle (it's probably all they got) you'll get it going again. I know when your head clears - you'll be taking it apart and trying to learn something from it. No matter what's going on - YOU'RE STILL OUT THERE DOING IT!!!!!!!! My hat's STILL off to you!

****s man, hope you blocks ok, glad the rod didnt come thru that!

I had a customer that i did the trick flow heads on his mustang tube ch***is car 3 times in a row, first time the motor sheared the keyway on the crank and bent all the valves, second time same thing after putting in a extra keyway after one dyno pull(bent all the valves again) the third was the worst, after finnaly getting the motor all tuned up and ready to go, he went to go for his first run down the track and the throttle jammed up on the throttle stop somehow and the kill switch didnt work and he couldnt get the motor to shut off, locked up the brakes, blew the front tires, ground away the bottom of the rims, bounced off the wall and hit the sand traps at 60 ish, it ground holes in the bottom of the headers, bent the ch***is, blew the motor again, ****ed up alot of stuff, but he kept his chin up, i redid the heads again, got some mandrel bends and rebuilt his headers for him, they straitened the ch***is on a frame jig and rebuilt it all again and raced it again!
