No reverse on my TH350. HELP!!! ****UPDATED****

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tugmaster, Jul 23, 2010.

  1. I went to back my car up today and low and behold no reverse. The fluid level is fine. I have a rebuild manual on it and in the front there is a trouble shooting guide. It did not give alot of insight. The trans was "supposedly" rebuilt. But for $75 I have my doubts.
One of the things I did do to it abot 500 miles ago was changed the shifter shaft seal. Due to the location in the car I had to remove the pan and remove the shifter valve. I put it all back together and it was fine till today. I was putting carpet and sound deadner in my car today so I didn't mess with it. Tomorrow am I was going to put it up on jackstands and drop the pan and see what I have. That valve I removed may have loosened up over time. I'm just guessing at this point.
Anyone else have any thoughts or ideas? Thanks, Todd

Is it a short or long shaft TH350? Just asking in case you need another one!

  3. Short shaft. Hopefully it wont need a rebuild. I rolled the dice by running a $75 Craigslist special. I guess I got what I payed for. Todd

Pull the pan and see if you by chanced dropped or bent the S hook between the linkage and the valve. You need to make sure that the spring clip that holds the shaft in position is in place too or it will move around on you.

Might be the front pump going away. Reverse takes more pressure than the forward gears. Check the s hook first. Obviously correct fluid level is important too

  6. Take it for a drive. If you also have no high the high clutch is kaput. it is on in Reverse and high (3rd) gear . $75 and rebuilt? come on.

  7. So I dropped the pan this afternoon. It turns out that the nut that holds the
roostercomb on the back of the shiftershaft came loose and allowed it to come out off the shifter shaft. In addition the S-hook was disconnected. I guess this would explain no reverse. I'm surprised I had anything at all. On a good note with the pan off I was able to adjust my shifter linkage (Gennie) absolutly perfect by matching up the roller and rooster comb. Once it cools off a little. I will test her out but I think I'm OK. Thanks for the advice.Todd
