Been looking at color options for the wife's (that didn't take long, did it) '58. It's white and we are going to add some scallops. We both like the idea of gold and I made the comment to her that gold is the "in" color right now. Seems like every other car I see is gold. I dig 'em, but it's obviously a trend.

So it go me thinking (dangerous, I know.), what is the next big color going to be? Inqiuring minds want to know.

If you want "retro gold", look up '62 Chevy Anniversary Gold...it's on the dark side (not as bright as the new stuff is), but I'd bet you can get it mixed in BC/CC...or even satin if you prefer. Put a metallic lime green on the top...it'll look killer!

    Fluorescent black it is, then.

I think I gave you guys the wrong impression. We're gonna paint the car whatever color she decides she likes. Gold, pink, polka dot, whatever. That's just what got me thinking about color trends. What is the next trend it the question.

I like satins because they are cheap and I have a habit of repainting my cars everytime the wind blows. Well that and you can windex them clean [IMG] Such a lazy bi!ch. I think and I'm gonna guess 58 Chev, I would paint it pearl white with a pink flake top and pink flake scallops on the pearl white.......want to paint my 58 Chev that way, but I need to finish the bodywork first...bummer.

Harvest Gold and Avacado Green. Without a doubt, they will be the next trend.

    Maybe not.

Anyway, Tony Bones, that truck is awesome. I have that issue of Custom Rodder and I treasure it.

  15. Satin colors look real sharp on vintage kustoms. I have always liked red oxide primer, or no paint at all-just that great old rust color patina finish [IMG].

That's got some weird Andy Warhol thing going on.

Gold's for pimps. A reasonable satin in the normal color spectrum is good, and extra outrageous metal flakes are awesome. But as for the next big trend.....hmmmmm......I'm gonna have to consult MTV and the Discovery Channel on that one. I bet people chroming their entire body gets to be the next big thing. Along with that, insert any color metal coating that would apply....gold plating....coppering...etc....ooohhhhh oxidized copper coating....

  23. You didn't say what model '58 you have so I'm going to ***ume it's either a Chevy(most likely)or Ford(not as likely). With a base of white you can pick just about any color you like.As both cars have more or less a,"boxy" shape to them,I would think that the scallops would have to follow that shape.I would almost want to "panel paint" it if it has any side trim at all.I would do a base of gold(an orange gold would be nice)and then do a blend around the edge of the panel in a Candy Red darkening to almost a black on the very edge and maybe coming back through the very center of the panel with the base gold to lighten it up a bit.A finish stripe of 1-Shot Orange or Vermillion would complete the car.
If you want scallops,I would use the same base and darken toward the tips of the scallops the same way and use the same outline color. For something really different,I would try and interlocking scallop design with the elements running at 90 degrees to each other with nicely rounded corners(a 3"-5" radius on the outside corners)and make the elements go under one and over the next and using a ,"shadow" where they cross to give a nice 3-D effect.Just an idea that doesn't look like every other car.

Ever since i started my 53, i've paid a little more attention to the color's out there now..
I've basically noticed what you all have..gold, or gold tone colors seem to be the rage lately..
Actually i see a lot of earth tone colors being used..

I picked a burnt orange-copper mix with gold pearl for my 53..
I realise the popularity of these colors, but i also see how they really look good on certain car's, especially when it's a custom with some smooth lines...
Mine is kind of a mix of all of them..
I 'shiny' cleared mine, but i gotta tell ya..before i hit it with the clear, it really looked killer!
I can see this color in suade on a nice custom any day!
I olmost left it that way...it was a tough descision for me [IMG]

Plaid is the new flat black. Hard to spray, but worth the time.

Being a graphic artist I would choose a new camillian color change with a blue or pink base , then add some white scallops .
    That would be hot.
