I have a line on a set of late 40's early 50's F1 Ford Truck front brakes. I am planning on using them on my Model A high boy project. Bishop/Tardel book told me they will work. The guy wants $100 for the pair. I believe they rotate freely and they are from out west. Good deal or not so good? Second question is, can the truck spindles be used or do I have to get '37-'41 spindles to work with a typical aftermarket 4" drop I beam axle? The same dude has nice car '37-'41 used spindles for $100 for the pair. How is that deal? I realize I will have to take a little material off the top of the spindle where it interfaces with the truck backing plate to get it to fit. Just want the right parts for the right price is all. Thanks for the advice!!
***uming the parts are serviceable the prices are right. You could luck out and find them for less if you have patience and are willing to shop around. I sold some 40 Ford front brakes for $100 recently. Plan on rebuilding the brakes. The spindles will almost certainly need new bushings. Good luck.
what years do the ford truck brakes come from? I can get some from a 56. also do they mount right up to the 37-48 spindle or what bearins would I use?
The prices are about right, keep in mind you have to buy a different rear bearing & seal for F100 hubs,I think it's the same for the pre 53'hubs.The inner bearing is Timken 14116,the seal is CR Services 15214.You will have to use 37-40'spindals or 41-48's.Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info. I think I knew about the bearing differences, saw it in a tech article on the 'budget' A build up that Rod and Custom Magazine is doing. You guys are the best.
