Okay guys, I have a 52 Pontiac and I'd like to upgrade the front suspension so my question is....Other than a Mustang II, what other front end suspension would you guys run on a frame like this if you were building it? I'd like to hear some suggestions.
Jaguar XJ, like '75-'85. Cheaper, gives all the same advantages, has a Chevy bolt pattern - but you were going to change out the rearend, too, right? A second gen Camaro should be an easy fit.
Has anybody on here bagged the original front suspension of a 50's Pontiac? I'd like to see pics of how it was done.
rear steer nova sub frame, more work, tons cheaper if you get a disc brake one in good shape, and it will drive like a regular car.
I want to stick with a GM unit if possible...will a S10 suspension be the same width as my stock suspension? What about a "G" body suspension like a Monte Carlo, Regal, Cutl***, etc..??
The tape measure is your best friend in these deals. I think that the track on an S-10 will be way too narrow for the Pontiac. That is unless you want to run really deep wheels on the car. I ran a rear steer Camaro/Nova sub frame on my 51 Merc with 72 Chevelle disk brakes and it fit the car really well. I would imagine that you could do the same with the Pontiac. You would have to measure the Pontiac's frame width just behind where the suspension/front crossmember mounts and measure the Nova stub in the same spot to see how close they match up. You might snoop a bit to see what the low rider brigade has been doing with that model car as they most likely have run them with hydraulics or bags and started with a stock suspension and modified it. The bag thing should be fairly simple but if the suspension is worn out it can get expensive to rebuild in a hurry.
I have the nova rear steer front end and an S10 which is a front steer front end, but the corn is all grown up right now so I don't want to go through the corn.
76 / 81 Camaro Firebird is the ticket. Fits well and are dirt cheap to buy and so are the parts plus it will drive very good and fairly simple to bag.
