I recently purchased a set of inner lower door repair panels for my 32 Ford 5 window. (See pictures) Here is the problem, they are marked RH and LH , but have had the RH and LH scratched out and LH marked on the one originally marked RH , this has been done to both pieces.

The panels are wider on one end than the other. They way they are marked now they would use the wider end on the front of the door. I installed one today and am concerned that they are incorrect.

Also does anyone have measurements from the the bottom of the door to the bottom of belt line, at the front, center, and rear? It appears to be 23 1/4 front, 23 1/2 middle 23 3/8 rear is this correct? I have the outer patch panel on but it appears to be installed incorrectly making the door too long. Thanks for the help.

    Mike

    Thanks Mike

I can look at mine in the AM if no answer here....but just common sense (which may not always work) it would likely be wider at the front for the hinged side of the door??

  4. Wider to the front/cowl.
I cant give you a measurement as my lowers are missing the skin, but I would line it up with the belt line of your cowl and rear quater as that is most important, what are you going to do if they are out of line??

What i would do is get the door on the car, remove some of the lower outer (assuming that your patching that too) close the door and figure out where it goes from there, make sure the inner door gaps are good if that makes sense, then attatch it. that lower flange may need some trimming also. So after its attatched to the door id go to the outside and make sure the door gaps look good at the bottom with the door bottom installed and make sure the gap is good with the thickness of the metal skin accounted for.

    Thanks HRP

Ford must not have been very consistant with these doors. I got measuremetns yesterday from another door, 23 3/16 front , 23 9/16 center and 23 7/16 rear .

I made the mistake of cutiting the outer panel down to those measuremetns. This was before I read your post.

Not thrilled about welding a small strip into this. Bottom of the car is gone so I am starting from scratch here. What about making both side the same and everything just a little shorter.

    Thanks
    Mike

  14. I just went out in the shop and measured the passenger door,,it is identical to the drivers side.

To be perfectly honest I don't know if a previous owner did any repairs on the bottoms of the doors but there is no indication of it. HRP
