I've always had a thing for sideways fins, and that back glass is just the coolest. Not to mention the thin sail panels with the pimpy stars... oh good god.....

Just taking a quick look at the pics; looks like the heater core is bad by the loop in the hose, no plastic lower seat trim pieces, non stock door panels and seats, wrong horn ring; no dash pad...
Looks like a pretty good paint job on a proven runner. If the rot is as low as he says; I wouldn't hesitate.
If you go mild custom, the missing stuff won't even be missed.
I am replacing part of my floor and trunk this week in mine....
I'm at 3k without it running so far...
You are money and time ahead with that car.
(and you know somebody if you need a few extra parts!)

Yeah, I spotted the heater hose loop right away, he said the core leaks.

I figured there should have been some seat base trim there too, wasn't sure though. As far as dash pad & the horn ring, i have no idea. I wasn't sure if they all came with dash pads or?

I think I'd have to leave the y-block in there if it was my own just to have that exhaust sound for a while!

Most of the upper level trim cars had the padded dash; but, it could be optioned without. I have 1 without; 4 with..... I also have one with factory chromed door sills. I wish ford had a better break down for all of their detailed options.
The one without also has cardboard visors. It was corinthian white with lavender/drk lavender interior, 1961 electric washer pump and control option, power steering, manual brakes, 4bbl 352 300hp, 3spd manual with overdrive, dual exhaust, and 2.94:1 rear gears... Wierd.
I do have a few parts; that's the good and bad thing about buying starliners as package deals... 2 of them were so rusty not much to save other than smalls...

No, it wasn't at all what I was hoping for.

    Rough.

asking price & the value i figured in my mind after seeing it were around $7000 apart.

good news is it was a no brainer, as in "no way in hell"

So I didn't have to mill it over & make a difficult descision that I might later second guess.

    This was a definate no.

    The search continues.

    what a sucky ending huh?

    Yeah, I think so too.

through the years, I've driven tons of miles to look at cars that have been poorly decribed by the owner, it can be a real bummer..:(

However, a bad day chasing cars is usually better then a good day at work..

    so true.

Hey, if it aint meant to be then it aint meant to be.

With cars I've adopted the first impression factor, know what I mean? If you aint feelin it, you just aint feelin it.

Seriously, on a $8500 asking price we were apart by a strong $7000 on this one.

I understand completely. Every time I have gone against my gut feeling I have regretted it. I have always told the first instinct is the best.

So your saying the car is worth 1500? I can tell you by the photos its worth more then that. Is that what your saying?

I'm saying what this guy is saying, by a long shot.

Them photos hooked me and reeled me in. The car was ROUGH man, I mean caulking gun siliconed together, sheetmetal screws, brush & rattlecan paint over what looked like drywall joint compound laid in with a rusty garden shovel... Dude she was rough.

Definately worth more than 1500 parted out but 1500 would be my max on that honey as a project to drag home.

I'm tellin ya, it held the basic shape of a starliner for the photos, but she was rough man. you know the old "paint it white" theory for shaddy body work? Well it don't work.

Not on this one, The special olympics baseball team used this car for batting practice for 50 years.

Did I mention she was ROUGH?

WHats to good to be true usually is. I never drive far to buy anything anymore, to much stuff right here in my own back yard. Here's a little story I'll tell you and I wont mention names.

I did someone a favor and basically they came down to pickup something that was dropped here that I said they could do no problem, I'm a good guy. Anyway this person tells me there selling their 60 Chevy Sedan delivery, I say cool how much, price wasnt to bad, I asked if it could be driven home. This is about a 300 mile trip for us. They say yes.

Guy sends me pics etc and I agree if car is what they say I'll buy it, I already have cash in hand.

Now rust is a big deal for me, I dont buy cars with rust anymore, been there done that to many times and its just not worth it when lots of good fish in the sea. So I asked several times does the car have rust. The replay was "No" No rust. followed with I'm not a body man but no i see NO rust. Now remember this person has a car lift right at his house has tons of cars and works on them. The 60 is on the lift in pictures. So again is there any rust, NO.

So me and a friend ride up with him on this 300 mile trip to basically pick up the car and drive it home.

Cough, when we pulled in the first thing he wants to do is hey lets not look at the car yet, lets have a beer..........ok sure lets have one.

after which ok lets look at car, and no I dont drink alot anymore so I didnt sit there and have a case of beers, I wanted to buy the car and hit the road. Well maybe he was hoping I did hit the beers, because I tell you what that car had more rust then any I ever saw. If you know those era chevys they have rust and I was prepared for some, but this thing had rusted inner fenders front and back, i could push my finger thru body panels, all the floors inside and under bed were rusted thru, now remember this thing is sitting on a car lift and literally a blind man would be able to tell you it was full of rust.

Anyway my friend says lets take it for a drive maybe its still worth it, well I already know its NOT worth it. But drive it anyway, well that thing could bearly stay on the road steering was shot and it was already running hot and this was on a cool evening.........

I was pissed to say the least, had to catch a ride another 100 miles away to oakland airport to get a rental car to drive home because this was on a sunday and nothing else was open

Did I say I was pissed......................

Oh and Northern Dave if it was 8500 NO WAY, I have personally seen two that were cherry and sold for 10k. My friend had one of them...........sorry now way wait for the right one

That's the short of it, 8500 buys a lot of car if you do it right & 1500 more makes 10k, no big deal I'm there easy.

    Patience I guess.

Sorry this post was a waste, I was ..... over excited.

Well thats another thing, most of the time, least for me. When I got to excited it ended up turning to shit. Take your time lots of great cars out there. I personally looked at a few 58's in my town that a guy fixes the floors then sells them for 10k, literally 10k for a project and all he did was fix the floors and trunk not running even no engine. Dont want to piss off the guys that dont like youto ask how much someone paid for something, but I paid 3k for my impala and literally is 99% rust free, only a small hole in the very rear lower rear quarter. And when I bought it the guy wouldnt sell it to me unless i hauled away the 73 monte carlo big block 454 car too..................so two cars for 3k.

I'm 65 and have been buying cars since I was 13-14 yo. If I had a dollar for every wild goose chase I went on I'd have enough to finish my '32 roadster. I have managed to buy over 200 so they weren't all bad trips but some do leave a real bad taste in your mouth. It is amazing how you can ask about something like rust and they will tell you,"no rust that I can see" and you can spot enough rust from the road as you drive up to reject the car.If my wife is with me she always reminds me that at least we got to spend some time together and a nice drive is always a good way to spend the day. she's one of those people who can see the bright side of just about anything. glad I married her.:)

I got some of the same treatment from my wife yesterday Frank. I felt so bad about dragging everybody along on a goose chase but she was cool about it, said it was a fun day etc.

    That does help a lot.

I certainly wasn't mad about the deal, just let down.
