Lot of kool stuff at the KKOA Spectacular. One of the cars that you might have over looked
Was this wild Kustom. The guy found the Merc in the Kansas city area and saved it from rusting
away. He is having a tough time finding out any history. He was told that Farner may have started
it in the early to mid sixties.

The Merc didn’t get many looks because it is such a wild kustom, some might consider it ugly.
I applaud the guy for not cutting away the front clip and adding a stock one. It would have
improved the looks but it would have destroyed all of the kool kustom history.

The rear quarters were buried in mud.

I would have loved o see this Merc finished in a 60’s style kustom instead of the
Tornado front clip. Current owner did the Carson style top and the taillights. I plan
on doing some photo chop’n and try to convert it….

Like it or not, you have to be impressed that guy didn’t try to change the history.

He saved most of it and the 57 Stude pans in the back... I forgot to post this pic.

I talked to a lot of guys that wouldn't even look at it and I would show them the build pics
then they would see what I was talking about. I agree it should be Kustom law that you
leave kustom history alone.... I told the guy more then once thanking him for leaving it
alone. I just wish that he would have left the top and the tornado out of it. But he is
    driving it..

If I remember right, he told me that he worked on it for almost thirty years......

  10. Thanks for sharing!

  11. I would have kept the top and rear wheelweels. That said, I dont mind the new version. I actually like the front.

Thanks for sharing the old photos and some more of the "rebuilt" car.
I had seen the car in the background of some other KKOA photos.. and wondered why nobody took, or shared a full photo of it.

I too would have kept the top and front and rear wheel openings... But I also appreciate the fact this guy saved it, and kept a lot of the other original custom features.

I don't think I have ever seen the original built before

It does look like a Derosa style, I was sitting in my chair and when it pulled in I thought
that it had some history... I ****'d when I saw the before pics, I would have fought a
bunch of snakes and/or monkeys to dig it out.

We were talking about what cars we liked the best this year and guys thought that I
was nuts for mentioning this Mercury. I have a parts car in my back yard that would
be happy to give up his top...

When the guy found it it didn't have the back end finished and he thought that Lincoln
tailights would work... He was right.

those skirts look like a full diaper which kinda matches the stupid top he put on it.

I guess it's better than sitting outside rotting

So glad it was at the show and not in that ditch still!

I like it, the hubcaps, not so much, but overall, she's stunning and kudos on what couldn't have been an easy project.
