How do you think POR would hold up for backing plates, axle, perches etc.?
I have used it on floors and a couple other areas but never somewhere that is more open to getting chipped.

Are you talking about the primer or are they making paint also?

Good luck chipping that stuff, you'll need a jackhammer.

I use their Ch***is Black on frames, rears, suspension parts a lot, holds up very well, Use it over the regular POR-15 silver as a "primer". Just follow the instructions to the letter!

That's how I felt when I used it on my Nomad floors. It flowed real nice as well.

Bad part is if you don't like it when your done you will never get it off and I think it's hard to paint over top of it even with scuffing.

The POR has no U/V protectant and will change colors when exposed to the sun light, it will happen in one day, I used it on the coupe, the silver one that is, set in the driveway for about six hours and it turned green.

Ouch, don't want that to happen! I have a couple cans of the black that's why I ask.

Never tried the ch***is stuff. Sounds like it may be a better route for the axle and stuff. I almost like the real color of the axle and perch's.

Ok< i just read another thread saying that if this paint is used on new parts ie. my axle & spring perch's it will not stick and will peel.

    Think I'll go with a ch***is paint.

  13. It needs rust to activate it to it's best.

  14. it still might work on the new parts you just may have to sand them with at least 80 grit sand paper on a da to get some good adhesion. paint does not like to stick to smooth surfaces no matter what it is

You might want to try etching them in one of the rust removers. I had poor adhesion
on new tubing until I etched it.

I think their directions say to sand blast new metal , followed by washing with soap and water . They also make UV resistant topcoats for the por 15 . They have been very helpful to me over the phone as far as prep , etc. I plan on using it on the frame of my current build

I'm looking into the POR Ch***is paint. It's supposed to have good UV resistance. I have used the other POR 15 with the right prep and it held up great but was in the light/sun.

Don't paint it on or near something thats threaded you'll never get it apart trust me!
Its very viscus and goes into things that are fastened together and don't come apart after it sets up.

I used POR-15 on 2 different frames. I don't like it at all. It is good rust protection, and very durable though. What I don't like about it is the color isn't consistent. They even said it them self that the Semi Flat wasn't guaranteed to be consistent. Even though I mixed it really good. Both frames came out blotchy, and streaky. They said to just scuff it right after it dries, and paint it. I used Krylon Semi Flat Black. Looks great now, and has a great base coat. I think next time I will try Eastwoods Ceramic Ch***is paint.
