A friend of my uncle has had this Coupe for 40 years. I'm hoping to finally convince them they are not going to get to it. 345 Hemi, (or whatever I can get my hands on, 340, 440 I'm not picky) automatic with OD, a guy has to dream.
A '57 Firesweep will have a poly-head 325 inch motor. It's basically a Dodge Red Ram poly, so Red Ram Hemi heads will fit on it. You couldn't get a Firedome engine in a Firesweep. The coupe is cool, but I'd kinda like to see pics of the DeSoto. Anything good left on it? Tail lights? Front bumper?
And you couldn't get an Adventurer engine (345ci) in a Firedome. Looks like a nice car. Someone on here has a sweet chopped mid-30s Mopar coupe, can't quite recall who at the moment-

Unless the tweeker scrap metal guys find and steal it. They are rampant in my area, keep us posted, lots of potential there.
looks like it has a swing out windshield, 38 had the windshield mounted in rubber. 36 had a cloth top. so 37 looks right. dodge and chrysler look the same but have chrome on the sides. i have a 38 and the hemi will fit without the firewall cutting.
ok. i still want it. The old fashioned security system works. If charger barks at you, you are in range.
It is going to donate many parts to save a convertible. You should see the other parts cars. Lil Red Express, warlock, chargers, belvederes, all it takes is a stack of 100s. there is even a bmw m3.
The Firesweep is based on the Dodge/Plymouth body, and there was no Firesweep convertible, so I'm not sure much of anything will interchange. That one is really clean, I'd love to start with that as a project. If I had to take a 4 door, I'd prefer a Firesweep, since '57-'59 Dodge and Plymouth 2 door post doors would fit onto it. I could have the only '57 DeSoto 2 door post.
I never realized that this vintage of DeSoto front end has the catfish mouth too, kind of like a "Packardbaker". I dig it. And where I'm from, that's pristine metal, not a parts car.
They did make Firesweep convertibles. They are rare. If that car gets parted out, I want the front bumper assembly! I'm dead serious, I'll drive to MO for it this weekend.
Nice! If you need help dragging it home, let me know and maybe we can drag the "boys" along......haha. Chris
This man has the correct answer! It's a Plymouth because there are no stainless beltline moldings, nor holes where they once were. Chrysler, DeSoto and Dodge all had stainless beltline moldings. It's not a '35 or '36 because it has three door hinges and not two. (Actually, the bodies look completely different, but when in doubt, count the hinges.) It could be a '38 if the windshield didn't crank out. '37s had crank out widshields, while the '38s had fixed ones. It looks to me like this on was a crank out. That makes this coupe a '37 Plymouth.
