TITLES: Need recommendation for a source.

  1. DUH... should have written down some of the sources for titles as they appeared here in posts. But I didn't. Now I nned to find one for my '28 A roadster pick-up. Who have you found to be reputable? Thanks.

    I used a company out of Las Vegas NV to title my scooter, and now for the life of me i can't remember the name, i'll get back w/you later i'll check my paperwork. they title cars, sycles, boats, etc.

    Was it these guys? http://www.its-titles.com/index.htm - International Title Service. Did everything work out OK with them/the title? I inherited an old bike from a friend who inherited it from a friend who... etc., and I was thinking of using these guys, but I wasn't sure if it was on the up-n-up.

    As a matter of fact it was! yeah, i had nuthin' but good things from those guys. I think the deal was i sold them my bike at an agreed price, then bought it back for a dollar and they issued me a title. pretty flawless, the only thing that sucked was when i tried to register it in NM the azzholes at DMV gave me static, it was their fault(DMV) but yeah thats them.

  7. Yorgatron -- My original A body is on repop Deuce rails -- so I need a good VIN number to stamp on the rails. I just hear it's a lot cleaner in CA, especially these days, if I have a title.
     
  8. I checked the guys in Vegas -- and they need a VIN number to do it. So that won't work. [​IMG]

    What I need is an ACTUAL title, with a clean VIN number, that I can then stamp onto my frame.

    Or maybe all I need is a clean VIN number to give the company in Vegas?

    I just sent in for one from them for my Model A,I have no idea when it's coming back but will post when it does.

    Please let me try to share my young, but very eventful knowledge on this subject. this read my be long but it's worth it to help you.

    I recently built a norton chopper and had to get plates for it and i succeeded with the following......

    I got a title with the engine. No frame since it burned up in a fire and that's why the guy sold me the engine.

    1. no one makes hardtail frames for nortons anymore so i could not buy one from a builder, and even if i did, i would still have the question of A. (do i use the Manufacturers state of Origin from frame builder to apply for a title) or B(do i try to get plates for the title i already have)

    2. most people that build their own choppers the old school way simply cut off the neck of a titled bike and use that to build their own frame. But there are issues with me since this technically should be illegal.

    You are not technically authorized to stamp your own numbers into a frame without the permit/license.

    3. I found the best and most legal way for my situation was that after building my own frame, I found out that a Norton Dealer makes original Norton Villier's frame plates that go on the neck. So he stamped the engine number that matches my title on since they're are manufactored that way (riveted onto the neck, not stamped)

    I believe that using the clean, original title that came with the engine and having an original norton id Tag made is the most legal way i could do it. It made no sense to me to try to get a new title.

    But many would argue that stamping your own numbers into your frame, or using the cut neck of a titled bike is just as illegal,

    I don't know, there are many variations you can go. Previously i also wrote a post about how you can use the Take Home forms for Vin number id that you can have a friend who is a notary sign it and get your plate with it to avoid equipment violations.

    And I think things are a little more uptight at the Cali DMV right now.

    On Model A's, the engine and frame (and body) numbers don't match. What I think I need is a good, clean 28 roadster pick-up VIN (chassis).

    yeah, I've been told that the "take home" VIN identification sheet that you can have a friend notarize and take to DMV does not work for cars, only motorcycles... So I really think that you'll need a professional titling service and all that....


    Plus i had a title to work from anyways, I was just sharing some info for people that might be in the situation i had.

    good luck as i think the titling agencies take advantage of you and charge hundreds of dollars, hopefully not.

    I wonder what would happen if you either had, or bought, an old POS Model A frame, cut out about a 4" section with the VIN stamped into it, and welded it into your repop '32 or other frame.

    You can apply for a lost title with a valid VIN. It's like you did a really big rebuild of your model A frame. By the time you cut out all the bad pieces, only the 4" section (with VIN) was left. [​IMG]

    It's like the guys who tear down all but one wall of a house and build a new bigger one using just the one original wall, thereby avoiding buying building permit.
