67 429 Caddy motor What Trans can I use

    I have a 67 429 Caddy motor.. The trans it has is a turbo 400 long shaft.. Im ****ing it in a 30 sedan and the trans is going to be to long... Is there and other trans that would work... I would like to put a 4speed behind it... Anybody have any input...

    If the 429 is like the 500s getting a manula box behind them is not easy. Short shaft BOP Turbo 400 might be your answer if I recall correctly.

    The 429 is more like the older Caddy motors.. I think 67 was that last of them... :rolleyes:

    I have 472 long tailshaft. Have heard [dont know] that you can just change tailshafts with any 400. Anybody know for sure?

    Does the '67 trans share the same bolt pattern with the BOP transmissions??? if so, you could go with a TH-350......

    One other thing...... Dude, you need to clean that motor up! :eek:

    From what I read on the Cadillac board The 429 has a bolt pattern that is different than the later Cads and the BOP pattern.

    Yes a guy should be able to run a short shaft without any problems except that he would need to pull the trans all apart. I saved the pieces from some s**** transmissions to do just that. A fresh seal kit wouldn't hurt when you did the swap though.

    Thanks for all the input... I will have to take to a ****** guy.... And Yes I will clean the motor (Alittle).. It was a low mile motor but Im going to take a look at bearings and reseal it...
