Such a great story. If its not too far away get a pic of the elderly couple by the cleaned up car in front of the garage. Awesome find!

What a great find, Congratulations. Keep as is, maintain it, or Rod it?
It's your problem to figure it out.
(****** wish it was my problem).

That guy still never gave his son the opportunity to own the truck. He didn't want it hot-rodded, so he sells it to a speed shop? Guy sounds like he's a real **** to his son.

:) None of you folks have a clue as to the amount of work I involved myself in a couple of years ago when I decided to try and attempt a Model of a 1941 Willys truck . I have the Old Cars weekly article on Riding in a Stock Willys Americar coupe . The reason I wanted both models was to do a model of a former Amoco station that kind of still hangs in the balance here in Richmond Virginia . I wanted to show the station as it would have appeared in 1948. I just pray that this Willys never gets "Butchered "into a G***er such as the already too many have . Oh , my 53 Ford Panel delivery remains stock too............

    HEY Guys & Maybe Girls!
I'll try & answer all the questions! Truck will stay stock! I have 2 g***ers & they are plenty to have! I do like g***ers way more than stock but this truck was done in 66 & only driven 3 times around the block & owner hit his leg 3 times on steering wheel & said thats it & parked it! Figure it out truck is really only 25 years old as it has been sitting for 44 years! The paint has not even burned off the muffler! Whats cool is the sawdust ****ed up all th moisture so everything still like new! I took the drums off & get this they were painted alum silver & guys used that paint way back when! All brakes new & no grease or oil so like working on a new car! Comment owner was a **** to son! No he was strict but son was a hell raiser he even told me that & was glad that dad kept it! The truck was the sons & i made deal with him! The dad is 93 & not in great health & mind pretty gone! I asked all the questions about drivetrain & son couldn't answer them as he said heck Bill I was 20 yrs old when we did that truck & didn't know much about that stuff back then just did what dad wanted! As far as I can tell motor & rear end & wheels & caps off a Jeep truck thinking about 56 era! Only changes later down the road is I like orig headlights on a Willys as they say Willys & conversions look like a 40 Ford to me! A guy just PM'D me asking if rings for sale & I will keep everything I take off as story is so cool! Only other changes maybe Willys back bumper & thats about it! Girlfriend says it has a lot of scratches are you gonna try & fix them! I said no way those add to the story of all the wood on it for 44 years & those scratches are SOLO SPEED SHOP style! One thing son asked is he gets to CA about twice a year & asked if he can come drive it! I told him he would hurt my feelings if he didn't he can't wait! He still loves the truck & dad but lives in a small house & no place to keep it so he knew I would take good care of it & thats what it needed! Ps the $150 was a joke put on by Bob who hooked me up with the owner of truck! Tks again for all the interest! Bill

Ok, I thought the father sold it to you before his son could get to it. I can't believe his son would want to sell it. Lucky for you though. That thing is a treasure to leave as is.

Can anyone identify this interior dome light that is on the truck? I'm not sure if it is some home-made deal based on maybe the original GM (Pontiac) truck reel lights that used a mercury switch.

Also can anyone give some background on the headlight buckets? Look similar to the "Stone, Woods & Cooke style ones I've seen on g***ers before. They say Electroline Mfg., Cleveland, Ohio. It is cast on the lower bucket as well as around the perimeter of the stainless ring.

Congratulations on the great find, I would change just what your planning and thats it. I keep waiting for my lucky barn find someday. Knowing my luck it will be a Simca or something but never a Willys!

  25. Bill, WOW, what a story, you just can't make this stuff up!

PS>>Leave it stock, but get a sign painter to hand paint on a patina weathered Solo Speed Shop sign on either door!

Nice find, I'd be very happy just to drive this around stock, perhaps just for the wind up factor, standard it must be cheap to run.

  28. My understanding of that style headlight bezel is that it is a universal conversion kit to put sealed beam bulbs on cars that didn't come from the factory with them. Something you would buy at an auto parts store (Western Auto) or maybe a dealership parts dept'. You see the same bezels on many different brands of cars. They are not an original Willys item but alot of Willys cars and pickups ended up with those sealed beam conversion bezels. I am kind of guessing so maybe someone else can verify this. P.S...I have a nice pair for sale.

  29. You lucky dog Solo! What a piece to add to a collection. At least it landed in good hands and not some hacker for $150.00. Could you imagine what might have happened to it?:eek::eek:

those headlights look to be 40 Ford style.

Louie, can you imagine if a hacker like me got ahold of that piece?
