I just picked up an Edelbrock carb for my truck. It seems alittle rich, so I was woundering what the jet settings should be to start? I was thinking 1 1/2 turns to start. Any help would be great. Thanks

If you are talking about the idle mixture screws. Turn the m both in till they just bottom out. Then back each on back out 1 1/2 turns. That is a stating point. You really want to measure your vacuum at the manifold. Then run each screw in till you get max. vacuum. Make sure the car is warmed up and idle speed is adjusted.
As far as your jets ... that's another story. Do a search there is tons of info out there on this stuff.

The AFB style carbs use jets and metering rods to control the fuel/air mixture. Find out what # jets you have in the primaries and secondaries... that's astart. Pull the top off and take a look at your float setting and the needle and seat...

What engine do you have....what carb do you have? I always like to start with the factory settings and go from there. These carbs are pretty simple to work on.

  5. What leads you to believe it's rich? Driveability? Fuel mileage? Exhaust smoke? Fouled plugs? Fuel dripping from main nozzles at idle?

When does it seem too rich? Engine hot or cold? Accelerating? At idle? Hot starting? Does it have a choke and does it work properly?

If you pull the top off the carb, remove the metering rods and pistons first. When you put the top back on, install the rods and pistons last.

Get a vacuum gauge and connect the hose to the lowest vacuum port. It's the one on the lower right of this pic:

If you do pop the top off, it might be a good idea to have another airhorn gasket handy (that's what the top is called). When I took mine off, the gasket stuck to the carb body instead of the airhorn and the floats ripped the gasket. You would think any parts store would have them handy but I tried about 12 places (parts stores and "speed shops") and had to wait overnight while Advance Auto got one.

Sounds like you're on your way, though.
