I stopped by the shop yesterday hoping to catch a glimpse of one of their ongoing projects, while heading back to Fort Worth from a conference.

I went inside the office to ask permission to take a few photos...and was warmly greeted and shown around a bit.

Dreddybear was working and made my visit the best. He treated me respectfully and was a real good guy.

I know I am only a fan and could never afford something they put out. I am a more garage built type guy. However, to them it did not seem matter...they are just good people... and they treated me with hospitality and warmth. Even though I believe they were not native Texans, they are have the warmth you would expect down here. (Okay I am a little Texas-centric in my thinking.)

To me it was like visiting Texas Stadium, the White House or a Hollywood Theatre...I respect the work they put out immensely. I did my best not to disrupt them but again the guy who spent about ten minutes and took my wife and my picture just made my day. In fact, the ten minutes was self imposed because I know they have work to do.

Thanks for being cool and “real” gear head people... not stuck up "lifestyle" guys that think they are better than everyone ... I enjoyed it immensely.

The ten minutes was self imposed...they did not seem put off at all by me. There is a little show room area that you could watch for awhile.

Plus they have a cool dog they just saved from traffic as a shop dog...

To help Dr. Spell Check not spoil his beer I made corrections to the above post to ensure proper water/ hops percentages. No one likes watered down beer.

    Just kidding

My employer sent me to Austin a couple years ago, before I knew about the HAMB, so before I went I looked up hot rod shops so I could get a t-shirt while I was there. I stopped at Austin Speed and met a guy named John, way nice to me, and another guy whose name I don't recall but goes by Mr. Ford around here. Even though I was only there to look around, John was very gracious to me. Cl*** act all around.

My wife & I enjoyed the garage crawl stop during the LSR. They were overwhelmed with people and still managed to answer everybodys questions, NICELY...
I know my wife has 1/2 dozen Austin Speed Shop Tanks she wears EVERYWHERE...

thats always nice to hear, Ive lived in the southern california area for 4 years now moving from miami and Ive been to so cal speed shop, hollywood hotrods, to Kiwi konnection in bakersfield, and even barris customs amoung others...and recently had a private tour at foose design, and they all were very friendly and helpful, I remember meeting troy ladd who gave me the tour himself, awesome guy, met alex xidias at so cal, and sam barris actually took me into his office where he would have his meetings with all them there celebrities about customs they came up with....duane at kiwi konnection was the most patient and explained to me every step in the ch***is build process...if im ever in austin ill be sure to drop by the shop...

These cats are the coloest on the planet! It could say Austin Speedshop and Hospitality Center on the sign, never experienced nicer folks and had more fun in a speed shop/custom shop/upholstry shop. As good as the best and better than the rest. ~Sololobo~

I've got to echo primered 69's experience. Last week I stopped by there to pick up some Rodder's Journal issues and met Paul (Dreddybear). Before I knew it we were talking about my project. Having just finished his car, he knew all too well the pitfalls I may run into and we chatted for awhile and he didn't make me feel rushed at all. A cool cat for sure... I also got to say hi to Bob while I was there. They were about to close and I didn't want to keep them, so I took off.

Great guys over there, no doubt...

My brother was out in Austin last year and I asked him to stop by and grab a shirt for me. He was shown around by Rocco and as he was taking pictures through the gl*** they came over and told him to get some better shots and go in the shop. My brother isnt really into cars but said since they were so cool there he grabbed some shirts for himself. Rocco is giving us NYer's a good name!:D

I also contacted John on the hamb to ask him some questions about a truck they built. he told me to call the shop. We talked for a bit, he had to take a call but he called me back because he told me there were a few things he wanted to make sure I understood! Real solid dudes if you ask me.
