Located a 62 Corvair rampside truck for sale, motor is not running good...valve or rod knocking owner said....truck is in real good shape, paint good, what are these things worth?
there were a couple on here for a while. pretty cheap. my guess is, just like a vw, a running motor can make or break the price on them. check craiglook.com, and see what theyre going for. that's what i do when i need to see what something is worth. best of luck if you buy it, theyre cool as hell.
I watch Vairs on eBay and the few I've seen in decent shape body-wise go for a good buck. Engine parts are no problem. I'd like one!
You might just check and see if that has a hydraulic lifter motor or solids before you go too far. I reanimated one for a customer at the end of summer last year that was a hydraulic motor, and until the lifters pumped up, it sounded like a rod knock. Pop a valve cover and rattle the rockers, if they informally have a small amount of lash, their solid. If they are tight, it's probably a hydraulic motor. Clean it up good, run some Marval Mystery oil through it and it might save. In other words, deal like it's junk!

Last year I bought one for $3,000. Completely rust free (they seem to rust out easily), needs paint (primered all over with different colors), weak engine (got half way home before it quit altogether), decent brakes and tires (but not good enough for me). The engine is being replaced with a rebuilt one now. I'm already in it for too much but that's OK 'cause I like the car. Buy the best one you can find; it's cheaper to buy 'em than to build 'em.
