I have a 700r that wount shift out of first gear on its own or manually but all other gears (R,N,P) work fine. I pulled the pan and checked the cable, nothing there, then pulled the govenor gear and the plastic threads were fine. So now im just fishing for suggestions whatcha got?

Do you have the TV cable properly adjusted?

Check to make sure that the weights and the plunger in the governor move freely, as in with NO effort. Even the smallest of debris can keep it from moving.

2-4 band might need adjusting or is fried. If the band does not apply, you won't get 2nd gear. If it feels like you are in neutral when you accelerate and release the gas pedal, then the band is not applying. This is because the 1st gear one way sprag clutch release and freewheels, so that band can take over. Could be in the valve body also, the 2nd gear apply may be stuck or the release is always on.

ya, the cable is adjusted right even took it down the road changing the positions to see if that would give me any results. Someone told me that there was a seal that goes bad and that might cause the problem have not tryed that yet.

  5. You may have this fixed by now-However,I have had the same problem in the past-this is something you can try.

    -Start the engine-let it idle
-grab the end of the TV cable at the carb and give it a couple tugs-make sure you pull it till it stops(which isn't that far)..(towards the front of the car)
-You are not cracking the throttle-only giving the TV cable a couple tugs
-If there is microscopic debris on the end of the plunger, this will usually flush it off.
Go for a road test and see if it is any better-has worked for me in the past.
