I'm not up on ford boxes but reading so many threads about them...I was 99% sure it was said that F1 and car boxes had the exact same splines. It was a thread about swapping arms.

I had a 34 1 ton steering box that if i remember correctly had larger splines thans its smaller brother(regular truck and car), so maybe even tho the new pitman arm you bought says it will fit f1 and f2 maybe thats incorrect, ill be at a junkyard friday, ill look at some and see if i can find anything out. maybe even 35 36 large truck might take a larger splines.

and as answered above, the splines of an f1 box are the same as 32-48 ford car.

Weird stuff happens over the years. I have a 56 f100 with a 60-72 dodge steering box. took alot of searching to figure that one out. I wish I could be more help. Maybe record the casting numbers. There are many steering box rebuilders that can tell you what you have. I hate the guessing game. Always nice to talk to experts.

If some one has a 48-52 box and could measure the very end of the splines by the threads that would be great. Thanx for all te help to fellow HAMBers. I am also going to call Dennis Carpenter today when I get home from work.

no, I am sorry, it must be early, I can't even read what I'm measuring

    1.063"

which would perfect with the 1.051" opening on your arms...

still don't know what box you have though..

The 21A arm you had first is 1942-48 p***enger, and its splines would fit an F1.
Box pictured in post 18 is not an F1, and is grooved for a pinch-bolt arm. Splines look to be straight, untapered, but hard to be positive from a photo.

The groove was put in by me, as I thought a F100 arm would work at first. And the splines are tapered

Looks like I will be looking for an F1 box at the Nationals to steel the sector shaft out of.

I believe the sector in an F-1 is the same as all Ford p***enger cars from '37-'48. A lot more to choose from.

I was just at a junkyard today and took a peak at a f1 and an f3 and the pitman arms were both the same, the funny thing is that the f3 had the normal shock mounts on it, which usually the larger ones dont have. so maybe they put heavy axle under a f1 and i really didnt look at an f3 even tho it had f3 badges.

Hahaha Thanx for all the help. Me and my dad were going through some old stuff and found a model A pitman arm. So new plan goes into affect tomorrow. Basically I am going to square off the splined area on my box with the milling machine and use the model A arm and still use the nut on the end for added insurance. I think it will do the trick and and be a "one off part" hahaha.
