Speedway Motors Driveshaft?...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 345 DeSoto, Feb 18, 2010.

  1. 345, I know this is a old thread, and your prob up in NY as we speak, but when you come back to FLA, Driveshaft Power Inc, Lake Worth is the guy I use and highly recommend. He's not to far from you/us. He can build or repair any unit and balance when he's done. Real nice shop too. UPS back to you for like $10.00 when he's done. I'm just north of you. Any tools- engine or machinist you need, welding, what ever, look me up when you get back to the Sunshine State. Take care.

I don't like speedway for the most part, but have beat the shit out of there driveshaft and haven't twisted it yet,i'ts a good product and pretty sure jet racing locally builds them.(johnny the jet saathoff in beatrice ne.) Hate to say it but this product is a good one.

  3. I don't get this one. You can go to any driveline shop and have a shaft made. Around here, Madison Wisc. Egge Machine told me if I bring them the front and rear yokes they would build the length shaft I want for $75.00 to $95.00, balanced. If they supply the yokes it's about $175.00. I found a circle track driveshaft (brand new) at Fall Jefferson swap meet I gave $40.00 for and shortened it myself. I had the rear yoke cut off and machined for$20.00 and I cut the shaft with a tube cutter and pressed it back together and welded it up. No vibrations at all, I didn't even have to have it balanced, and I thought for sure I would. The down side is now I don't get to slam Speedy Bill.

I've used Speedways with great success. The last one that I had made locally was $350 and that was 10 yrs. ago. I think that they're the only ones who make'em around here and know it. F*k them

I've used the Driveline Shop in Springfield MO. for many years. Usually between 175.00-225.00 plus freight. New from front to rear and I always get it the way I want it. Ready to paint and install

When it comes to the cheapie cheap stuff Speedy sells its been hit or miss for me, his better vendors are for the most part good, it's when I try to buy a 15 dollar fuel filter that I get boinked, I would just really wonder if a 90 dollar drive shaft is gonna be a hit or a miss and if it's a miss how much is that gonna cost? The 15 dollar fuel pump came in a bag of goo, the paint was a goey mess, shame on me, into the dumpster it went, lesson learned, bought a nice new clean Fram hi flow. Some stuff is like going to the 3 for the price of 2 eye doctor.

Winters has been making stuff for a long time and are a good company. Im sure they will fix the problem.

As for the driveshaft in question, It is made with the same stuff they use for their dirt track(IMCA modified) driveshafts. They are plenty strong.

I live in Lincoln, and buy stuff from speedway occasionally. WHY? because I can drive over there and get the parts for one. As with any parts I buy from anywhere, I look them over to make sure they are ok before I do anything else.

I had a friend who worked there for several years, and they do have issues occasionally with parts. That being said they work very hard at fixing the problems.
If you dont want to buy foriegn made or foriegn cast/forged parts, dont!

I used one in my burgandy roadster, very serious 355 Chevy, 580hp on the dyno, not in my wet dreams, with a Muncie and a 9". It stayed together and to the best of my knowledge is still in the car when it was running the Jalopy Drags at Beaver Springs last year.

I buy a ton of parts from Speedway mostly because, if you are careful about what you buy, the quality is decent and getting better all the time. I buy from Mac's and Moon etc. and all their stuff is imported as well. I used to buy from the local speed and rod shops but to be honest, I got the same parts, and got jerked off all the time. I just got the shits of one excuse after another as to why my parts wern't in. One speed shop I am very tight with explained they have to order each item in and as such are at the mercy of the various suppliers. Speedway on the other hand will have your order on your doorstep in three days because they invested in the inventory, setting it on the shelf, waiting for you to call. This is almost unheard of in todays economy to have this kind of resouces, in any industry, let alone something as fruity as hot rod parts. Time and completness of an order are as important as price to me. I'm waiting mucho weeks for a glide seat I would have had in three days had Speedway handled them.

In short, they have a place. If you need to buy American, which I would love to do if I could, you'll never get anything on the road. Sad but true.

To answer the question, I'd buy another in a minute.

Yes it was. Had a friend look at it he said it was thin so we are going to shorten an old drive shaft i have and weld it up. Going to the Milltown show on Friday so need to get it done.

I guess not. I found the "correct" (not really, but I thought it would work) driveshaft in a junkyard for $75. Made the Speedway option an easy choice.

Fellas got to keep in mind the fact that parts and services are not distributed evenly across the landscape.
