I'm thinking about building a trailer to haul my 76' shovel behind my coupe. Thinking about a 4" drilled superbell for an axle Any thoughts or pics out there ?
My self, I'd get a torsion axle ( as used under a lot of horse trailers) and build a proper trailer for the bike. The Superbell might have a big Bubba factor but in the long run I think you would hate it. http://www.google.com/search?source...fai=CRUfRsmhUTIvWIoGOzQT2jtnPCgAAAKoEBU_QYUTa Sometimes doing it right is better than doing it "cool".
Here is the thread, pictures are missing, PM hatch http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=188957&highlight=trailer
saw this the other day on CL and thought it was cool,, http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/pts/1860106451.html and this one is bad ***! http://ventura.craigslist.org/mcy/1820441701.html
For my Sporster I bought an old single horse trailer that worked great with a minor tweak. I sold that, don't know if I am going to have one for the Dyna or not.
OK Trent, how much did he pay you to post that? Actually I built that trailer for him. It had a standard I-beam and spindles ('33-'35 if I remember right. I used the stock tie rod and anchored a shortened drag link to the frame so you could set the tracking and toe in/out just like a stock Ford front end. He was looking for a way to get his bike to events and didn't want to ride it all the time. Hope you find the pictures, it turned out fairly well. I had my PM's loaded with requests for blueprints and material build lists for quite some time after it was done. I just used junk that was laying around the shop and in the s**** pile out back. I bought a super cheapo trailer it from Harbor Frieght and added some angle and sheeted it. Maybe $200 in it. Its made countless trips to El Mirage and a couple of trips to Bonneville without any problems. Except one of the fenders fell off. Maybe not cool but who cares? I'm going to race not pose. [/IMG]
Chopperman - You have a 76 foot long shovel? All joking aside, here's a pic of an O/T bike being towed by an O/T car: ... but the trailer's design would work well for towing your '76 Shovelhead behind your '30 Coupe.
could be very cool idea with your own twist, maybe matching fenders/lights and a cool tool box on the front made outa a trunk or old cooler.........I would try to keep the center low to the ground but high enough to clear driveways........Ya know thinking about it,instead of reinventing the wheel why not find a good trailer and just give it your look..........
