Pics of Royce's RPU from Pinkee's Open House Yesterday, PLUS

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hotrodladycrusr, Sep 26, 2004.

  1. I noticed it but for some reason it didn't click. Went back and read the thread again. There are a lot neat little ideas in the pictures - mostly little things that most of us can do at home.

Definitely blows it out of the water for the Ridler...(not Riddler). [IMG]

Royce had already notify the powers that be at the Detroit Autorama that he would be bringing his RPU BUT not competing for the Ridler due to the fact he wanted to compete at the GNRS this year.

I still like rogue's new rpu better. not finished yet but it is getting done. Of course seeing it in person does make difference.

This one is nice, has alot of nice touches and some creative engineering. Nice car overall.

My hat's off to the crew at Pinkies! Great work, from design to execution, and mainly the inspiration that continued clear through the project. The other cars in the shop are killer as well. Hope to get out there some day...
Anyway, hope they win the big one, but they've already won me over, just by seeing these pix...........

I just got word that Royce's RPU didn't win the most beautiful roadster BUT it was awarded the Chip Foose design excellence award and the most beautiful interior award. Congrats to the Pinkees crew for all their hard work. Now it's one step closer to Royce actually getting to drive it.

Oh yea, Steve Moal's car won the AMBR. Good for
    them. [IMG]

I don't understand how this thing didn't win AMBR - even at the GNRS this thing stood out above everything else, even Moal's car with all due respect. I must have spent half an hour staring at it, it's just on another level. It was really refreshing to see a tastefully stripped-down contender in an era of smoothed-out and shrouded sweepstakes cars. I think Indian Larry called it 'seeing the mechanicalness' of it. Hopefully more 'builders' clue in.

I saw that car at Pomoakland last weekend and they said they were not going to go for the ridler with the RPU. And since they went for the AMBR with it that dis qualifyies them anyways. That RPU is super cool and the creativity is incredible.

    Thanks for the pics !
The actual car looks a lot better than the concept drawing and I also prefer the bare metal look over the finished and painted version.
I ABSOLUTELY love those tall and skinny tires !!! Too cool ! Also dig the low mounted big headlights and the center mounted '51 Ford speedometer.Actually I dig EVERYTHING on this RPU.Incredible craftmanship...

Beautiful truck! I know that engineering a car to look clean and simple is very hard to do, it takes more hours than anyone would dream of.
I sure would like to see some more pictures of the frount suspension in this thing. I really like the "hidden" spring pearch and would like to see how the shackles are hooked up. are they mounted to the batwings or ?????

WOW! I don't know if I like it better painted or not, Maybe should build another in bare steel and leave it somewhere like Morristown Tennesse for others to enjoy.........

Its one of those that the more you look the more you see, the gas tank, wheels, floor etc.
Yeah my 29 RPU looks like hell now that I have seen this!:D

    GREAT RIDE!

Not to throw cold water on Pinkee's cars...or the fact the "Royce" drives his cars, but I go to a lot of rod runs around the ColoRODo area...and I've NEVER ONCE seen any of Pinkee's eight (or so) cars he's built driven to or from a rod run...matter of small fact, I've never seen any of them at small rod runs...they are only taken to the larger shows where they are almost guaranteed coverage of some sort (like GoodGuy's events).

My friend Jim Fynes had Pinkee's (and I know Eric Perat personally) build a '49/'50 Ford sedan...built a wagon out of it with a Ford SOHC in it (Jim is General Manager of Phil Long Ford), it's won a ton of awards...but it hasn't been seen for the last couple of years...it does not get driven to rod runs...I doubt it gets driven at all.

Would you put a car that cost you half a million dollars (or more) on the street with all the soccer Moms, driving SUV's , kids yelling in the back and a cel phone stuck to their ear?

Guess it depends on how much discretionary income you have...but I'll stick to my original comment: I've NEVER seen any of Pinkee's cars (artwork) on the streets and highways around Denver going to or coming from a rod run/event. Just the same, I can be proven wrong...

    Oh Wow.

THanks for bringing it to the top - that thing is gorgeous. The more rpus and T's I see - the more I want an open roadster.

This Rpu is amazing. Who knows how much it cost to build - but I hope they drive the ***** around!

He has driven it around. In fact over the weekend Royce mentioned that one of the baffles fell out and the RPU is so loud that he needs to get that sorted out because it's so deafening it's uncomfortable.

It was at the Starbird show in Tulsa. The owner was talking to Mr.Mac and let it slip that $310,000.00 was spent on the build. Larry
