Working on my 47 Ford, brake shoes, wheel cylinders. I've been driving all summer but the spongy pedal made me decide to fix things. I got it all apart ok. I see the adjuster bolt/nut for each shoe on the back of the backing plate and it has a cam on the inside that adjusts the shoe. What is the proper procedure for putting this back together and adjusting things? Any other tips anybody has for this project? Thanks Don
Back off the cams all the way, assemble. Turn cams out one at a time till wheel locks, back off untill just free. Take for a short drive re-adjust.
Thanks for the information. Do I need to remove the cams from the backing plates to clean and lube? I did use a end wrench and they all do turn. Thinking that I'm going to remove master cylinder and put a kit in it as long as I have all the fluid out. How difficult is it to replace the bushing in the brake pedal pivot? Thanks Don
Do not remove the cams as they are staked/riveted on. Bushing replacement ? never done that exact one but I would think a couple of sockets or simular and a piece of altread would handle it.
Dont forget to bleed the brake system first... then Back off the cams all the way, assemble. Turn cams out one at a time till wheel locks, back off untill just free. Take for a short drive re-adjust.
