Does anyone know a good way to get the flat head screws off of the door hinges? I have busted several screw drivers and use liquid wrench... I don't want to drill them until I have used all other means. Thanks

try welding a 5/16" bolt to the screw head. You can then use a wrench with a good deal of torque and the heat from welding will help loosen the screw.

Assuming that you HAVE an Acetylne torch heat them up until they are cherry red and let them cool a time or two. The expansion and cooling tends to loosten the threads if you can heat the boss or nut more than the screw and try to turn them while still warm this can work. If you are relyingh on penetrating oil Kroil is very good and has helped me where others haven't worked

If you still have a head on the screw, a hand impact screw driver with some KROIL penetrating oil should do it.

Thanks, I will continue to with the penetrating oil and impact screw driver, already broke several bits. I like the welding the nut idea on, I have done that before.

Be sure you can obtain replacements!
You could vibrate them loose with an impact, weld a nut to the head and impact them out or soak them with a release fluid for days and try a large screwdriver head then?
I heated mine (not red hot!) with a small torch and hammered a large screwdriver into them then with the help of a crescent wrench on the shaft of the screwdriver broke them loose.
Salvaging a few other trucks that were completely shot, save but for parts yeilded me replacement screws.
Studebaker Truck Talk Forum is an excellent source of info and parts.
Best of luck with your project!

    Hopper,
When you go to the STT Forum, know that the pages load from the bottom.

  14. I was going to say the same thing. I have one you smak with a hammer left over from my flat track days. Works like a champ.

It was a 15 dollar tool back then they are probably about double that these days.

A 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone works real well for rusted bolts.
