Sign of the time's. Street Rodder sent an offer of 3 trial issue's AND a $17.95 per yr. I have not had a subscription from them for over two year's. Wonder how many magazine's will make it this year. Custom Rodder seem's thin too.

  3. Yea they just dont have an up to date feel, and I justify having DSL by not buying mag.s anymore. They should be cheaper anyway as the advertisers paying them and then we pay them, they are getting money comming and going. Just charge a bit more for the ads and less for the mag. Circulation will go up and then they will be able to sell more ads. for stuff that I don't buy anyway. So if it all worked out the Gold chainner buying shinny new stuff will pay for my copy. Useless

Poor Jim, you just can't win!

I am in the process of reading it cover to cover. I love it.

The HAMB does spoil you though. I saw more Egorama pics here.

I think you are close, but not quite right. I think magazines are pretty much what they used to be. You aren't though.

You are spoiled by the immediacy and the personal qualities of the HAMB. You can see pictures from a car show, often times, the day of the actual show. And you can ask for tech help that you need right then, instead of what the magazine is covering that issue.

That being said, I think mags still have an important place. I dig R&C, and will keep on subscribing. But I rely on the HAMB way more than all of the mags put together.

Jim, my man. You have to listen to your readers. Surely as a businessman you must know that the customer is always right, even when they're not. You could start by putting all of the ads in the back. I know what I want to buy and who I want to buy it from. Ads that intrude into the copy are just plain irritating, just like pop ups on the computer or telemarketeers. I know it's a money thing now days, but how much money do you really need? I never seem to need much. Poverty can be a blessing.

I made a HUGE mistake already trying to defend something on one of my return posts. Go ahead and say ANYTHING you like about the magazine- I'm not going to comment. Magazines STINK- internet rules! Rock on.

I'm not a business man- AND listen to the customers say what? Do I go over to Slazzen's house and let HIM tell me what HE wants to see more of in the magazine- That way we have AT LEAST one happy reader- RIGHT?

Amen to that, Pigpen. Another Primedia mag, VW Trends, kept getting thinner but the articles were getting better. Last month Primedia pulled the plug on it. I have a bad feeling about Hotrod and Rod and Custom

None are so blind, as those who will not see.

None are more ambiguous, as those who speak with their mouth full.

  16. Actually, the internet ****S compared to real life car shows, magazines and working on hot rods in your garage.

Why, here's a pic of Jim and Slazzen in my garage... Jim's in the red hat, and Slazzen is on the far left... notice they both have smiles.

Incidentally, I enjoy hanging out with both guys... and unfortunately they aren't in my garage right now chatting about what they both love...

    The invitation is always open.

    Long live Rod & Custom...
    Sam.

Sam, Where do you get off posting a reality reply. It won't make you popular with the whiners

This post is full of guys that I get emails from... They ***** about how winey the HAMB has become, etc... It's easy to stop. It's called IGNORE! And guess what? The new hamb has that function!!!! Rad, no?

All you have to do is click on the ***hole's name you want to ignore and then find the "ignore this ***hole" link and you are good to go. No more *****y emails, k?

Seriously though. I just got done working my *** off for close to 28 straight hours. Last thing I want to read is this ****. The new R&C was actually pretty good. The HAMB is better. Sam's garage is better than both. Keith's garage takes the cake.

  20. I like the new issue. HAMBers.....no, real guys I know are in it. Guys I am proud to say I have met and had a beer with.

If I got as fired up as you everytime someone ragged on the HAMB, my eyeballs would be flying out my ***hole. Seriously.

I'd bet you just about anything that I get wayyyyy more feedback than you. I'm much more accessible.

You just got to learn to take it for what its worth - an opinion. And there is nothing wrong with them. You discount some, learn from others...

I never heard you talk about negative feedback until recently so you've done an AMAZING job not letting it get to you. It just seems that publically people are so nice to you in their posts (the opposite of my situation- they only PM me the nice stuff) I never thought people would send you nasty stuff. Even in difficult times I hope I was was always respectful in my correspondence to you.

This new HAMB is amazing! I have nothing bad to say ;)

I got mine the other day, and to be honest, i really liked it.

Sometime's there's stuff i like in it, sometime's not, but i still subscribe cause there's been more liked issues than dislike's..
    But thats just me..
Were all in***led to our oppinions.

I find it incredible that someone would email you Ryan with complaints. Do they still live with their mommy, or have they moved out and now need someone else to nursemaid them through life?....Where is Ann Landers now that we REALLY need her???

fortunately ive got other things to worry/think about... but i do believe its safe to say we all know what will stir the pot around here, a little descretion when writing a post is probably a safe bet for a more WHINER free hamb.

I don't just get emails.... I get death threats. No ****! I mean it gets ugly... wife gets upset, etc... bad ****. I just don't really care enough to let it get to me I guess... Course, I don't make a living from it either.... yet.

As for why I don't get it in public? Think about it. I have troops behind me. Most guys (with a few exceptions) can't rag on me in public without getting bashed by 30 members and then having their thread locked. And when that happens I can only imagine the emails those dudes get.

Another factor is that I provide a free service. I can always fall back on - "hey, did you pay for it ****er? Then shut your cake hole!" You don't have that luxury...

WOW!!!! May I never complain again- I have NEVER got a death threat- that's unreal! Let me know if one ever comes from my neck of the woods- I'll go over and annoy them to death.

You bust your *** providing a one-of-a-kind, high-quality, FREE service and you're getting death threats?! I guess it's true that no good deed goes unpunished. ****.
