You gotta' see the Big Duck on Rte 24 in Flanders Long Island NY (just past Riverhead).

The ****er indeed is big, it used to be a poultry store when duck farms were a big industry on eastern LI and has model A taillights for eyes. Now don't be bringing your ladders out there in the middle of the night......

We have the 'Haines the Shoe Wizard' Shoe House in York. It stands along Rt. 30 East of town.

..ok glad this topic came up. Here's one for the Jersey natives...when I was a kid I remember seeing a blue whale like the one pictured above on the lot next to 5 points in Union (Galloping Hill Inn) right next to where the cruise nights are now...I believe it had a small swimming pool inside of it for kids and had YMCA or something painted on the back of the whale's body...you entered the pool through the whale's mouth. I have asked lots of people and no one else seems to remember it.........

No pictures right now, but I have seen the "Worlds largest ball of Twine" and the "Worlds deepest hand dug well" many times in my life! Both I believe are in Iowa.

I'm such a ****er for this stuff it makes my girlfriend (and MANY others) nuts to take long trips with me! Don't even start me on roadside history signs! Ever seen the final resting place of Arizona's military Camel driver? You do if you go through Quartzite, AZ. with me! Hell, THE LIBERACE ( Craig Smith) from here on the H.A.M.B. and I don't travel together anymore over that one...

  15. Down in DeRuyter NY on a back road near DeRuyter Lake there's a great big plastic statue of a Wooly Mammoth. I went by it once, but I don't have any photos.

I would imagine if you travel a road like US Rt. 20 you'd find more stuff like that leftover from the days before interstate highways.

  18. Here is some more. The Blue Whale and this "Pops" Station and resturant are from Rt 66 in Oklahoma - yes, thats a three story soda bottle. We tracked back to St. Louis from Amarillo this spring with the family. I can't quite recall what town the Blue Hippo is in - Tulsa? hmmm

  19. We found this station in Shamrock, Texas. Right across the street from a resturant that served the best steak I have had in a while...
Guess where in the movie "Cars" it appeared...

This is the new Mental Health Center being built in Las Vegas...doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in me, actually.

Discovery Science Center is Santa Ana, CA. The first time you see it from the Santa Ana (5) fwy, you swear a building must have fallen over - at least for a moment

The trees of mystery in the redwoods along the northern california coast. In the parking lot are Paul Bunyan and his sidekick Babe the blue ox, mom took a pic of me in front of him when i was 4 years old, been back twice. This is a must see if you are in the area, m***ive 600 + year old trees and have see hot rods in the parking lot both times i have been there. Driving through the redwoods and along the coast is as good of a drive as you will find.
