Hello HAMBers....hoping to get some input. Looking for a machine shope to recondition some connecting rods. I've found 2....Syracuse Crank and Machine, and Skip's Pit Stop. Anyone have experience with either of these?
Do not have direct experience with these shops. But for the last 40 plus years Tim Salisbury of Precision Balaning has done allof my rod work . Tim is a fully qualified tool maker. He has all the machinery and also a magniflux and ziglow inspection station. And as the name states he has a stewart warner balancing machine. Tim has the backround and the experience to do just what you want . Give him a call at 315 834 9798 , the location is in Weedsport NY near exit 40 NY Thruway . Tell him **** Smorol from TDC ENgineering recomended him .
In Utica there is UAP, these guys are the best engine builders ive ever seen. Take exit 31 off the thruway, and your two minutes away from the shop. They know there ****. 735-6404 If you are looking for an actual 'machine shop' i would reccomend Beck & Hientz, also in Utica. Next to the FX Matt brewery
I appreciate the input guys....the reconditioning of these rods is a big deal to me but a relatively small job. What I'm much more interested in is finding a shop I can trust for when I need the expertise on the bigger jobs, so this information is really appreciated.
frontenginedragsters here on the hamb has a machine shop in Rochester I'm sure he can help, here is his profile - http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/member.php?u=43454
I second Tim Saulsbury at Precision Balancing in Weedsport N.Y. He's done a bunch of work for me. He does a really good job for a very fair price.
TDCENG - 345 DeSoto here...Tony deFoster. Remember when you welded up spring mounts for a 37 Ford onto a 57 Chevy rear end for me...in your Mom's ba*****t?! GOOD to see you're still kicking around...
Frontenginedragsters = http://www.pro-formancespecialties.com/ Call Matt for personalized service. 585-288-1499 Worth the little drive west. Will be at Empire this weekend with his FED. Racing the G***er Gang Center steer cl***. Good luck Luke
Hey Wally....out of curiosity, who's Jimmy D in Solvay? I'm pretty familar with that area (at least used to be) but that doesn't ring a bell. Anyway, sounds like a lot of HAMBrs have had very good experience with Precision Balancing, so I may have to give Tim a try. I just got my rods in a couple of days ago, so I only need to save up a few bucks and then I'm off to the races!
Is Marsh still in business over between Hastings and Little France? They used to build some pretty stout engines for the Supers at Oswego. They are (were) on County Rt-38, right before the Rt-84 turn and the I-81 overp***.
I've had a lot of work done by Brian Osbourne at Syracuse Crank and Machine. I've always been happy with the results. He has a more complete machine shop then Tim Salisbury (who I've always had good luck with also) and much newer balancing equipment. Brian's also good with the older stuff too... In fact he has my flathead right now.
Are you referring to Bill Marsh ? He was very busy in the fall making torrsion arms for the big, week long super modified, race which was coming up at Oswego....
Up in Hastings, huh? I want to say that Ron Van Allen recommended him to me, but I can't be sure based on the name. Just that the location rings a bell. I'll need to find the card that Ron gave me last year....it's (hopefully) kicking around in my garage file-drawer.
