PSI made many different hot rod parts, mostly ch***is/suspension, from the 60's into the 80's. I think the owner's name was Gene something. Somewhere I have read that all the patterns and masters of the parts are still around, and they are considering making more of some parts.
Gene Scott (deceased) owned PSI & Specialty Antique Ford Parts in Rosemead. Today, Jim Gordon owns & runs the store in the same location, and still makes sells a lot of hot rod parts. If you want to speak with Jim about it, the number is 626-280-4546, 11am-5 mon-sat typically.
RG, I didn't notice, you are in LA. I suggest you take a drive to SFP in Rosemead. You will be pleasantly surprised --you'll want to make Jim your new best friend.
Most Saturdays, he'll close to sell at a local swap meet or something. Call ahead, but not before 11am. And if he doesn't pick up, call again in 10 min. Oh, and take a list of any small parts you need... and take cash.
just bought 4 of them off ebay <TABLE cl***=sp1 summary="Other item info" cellPadding=3><TBODY><TR><TD cl***=inf_lab vAlign=top width="1%" noWrap align=left>Item number:</TD><TD vAlign=top>160313267236 you have to email the guy for purchases as his account won`t except payments</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Be careful, theres' a guy in fla that is making knockoff that show up on ebay i have yet to hear anything good about them. We considered making some and actually digitized an original one, converted it into mastercam and stuck a chunk of mahogeny in the NC mill and it cranked out a very nice wooden one. But thats the only one we made. The biggest reason is that it just looses something when made perfect, it just ain't the same you know.
the original "sp" tops were produced by Al Sharp and Gordon Pilkington, where the name comes from (S)harp(P)ilkington, the business i belive was SP speed producst, so the SP doesnt stand for speed products, thats the second part of the name. theres some really good history reads here http://www.wilcap.com/webdoc7.html Gene Scott only reproduced the tops, and theres the other other company SCOTT which also made a totally different type top and fuel injector stuff. I think wilcap owns the original patterns and has made some runs of them in the past and had planned for some more There are also alot of repop tops, some with the "sp" on them some with out, also you can tell a ****py copy as they are cast aluminum and some are Die cast, which is much better the new repops are die cast and ive heard they are ok. JEFF
Sorry for bumping a 4 year old thread but rather than create a new one... Can anyone help with regards to sourcing SP tops??? I spent the last 20 mins searching and cant find ANY supplied for repros.. Am looking for half a dozen, preferably original but GOOD repros would be fine.
so cal sacramento has the repro sp tops that looks pretty good, they dont say SP on them and you wont find any repops that have the sp on them. Also a while back i bought a non-logod sp top from a guy on ebay and he told me that at some point trans dapt (i think) made some with no logos, dunno for sure.
last time i was in the store they were directly accross from the costomer service counter on the end cap of an isle
A guy in California makes them. It took me forever to find him but had him make me some and they are awesome. He is a stand up guy. Call Cecil Yother at 510-710-1974 or go to shadow@yother.com
they might be confused on what they call them, they were hangin right on the end cap, 100% positive as i had them in my hands inspecting them. and they didnt have any scott tops, so im betting they are confused.
I spent like 10 mins on the phone with them. They went and looked and confirmed they only have Scott tops. I even described the difference and they agreed and confirmed no SP tops. I guess they could be confused but as they are 3k miles away there isn't much I can do if they tell me they don't have them. Thanks anyway....
I bought these from a guy on facebook, i would ***ume they are Cecils also, the first pic is what they looked like when i got them. spent a few hours sanding and buffing on them, they are pretty nice castings to work with, i didnt do a super perfect job but they turned out pretty nice, another once over and they will be really nice.
I apologize for again reviving this thread, but does anybody have any experience with these tops from Airflow404 on eBay? They look an awful lot like the Cecil Yother pieces mentioned before, and the seller is in Pleasant Hill, CA. What does Cecil charge for his tops? Is he on the HAMB? I'm looking for a half-dozen. Don't want to spend more than I should for a repop, but don't want to pay for garbage either. Thanks!
