I cannot hold back with all of the knowledge out here. Can anybody please ID this old Ford Pickup for me? I think that it might be a 41 1 ton, but I am getting nowhere. I found it and would like to know what I am looking at. I have not brought her home yet, but it will be soon. http://s574.photobucket.com/albums/ss187/cjodell13/Jeff Pickup 1/ Thanks in advance. The rest of the pictures that I have are loading to Photobucket right now. Sorry to rush the post. It takes too damn long to upload them... CJO13
It's a 1940 FORD 3/4-ton pickup. Narrow bullnose on the hood says it's a '40. You can tell it's a 3/4-ton and not a one-ton by the wheels...as they used Wide-5's up until 1942 on the 3/4-tons... Neal
So does anybody know if the front fenders are interchangeable with the 1/2 ton? Or can you purchase replacement fenders for a '40 3/4 ton? CJO13
Nope not a 40! Gas tank is under seat so looks to be 46 3/4 ton. And no the fenders will not fit a 40.
The only thing the same as 1/2 ton is the cab. Front fenders are the same as 1-ton and 1-1/2 ton (big truck)...as are the hood and grill. Bed, rear fenders and running boards are the same as tonner. None of these parts are reproduced...but good originals are out there as they aren't in that great of demand. Neal
sure looks like a 40 to 41 ford 3/4 ton to me also? And no the fenders won't work on a 1/2 ton truck!
I was wondering if I can put 1/2 ton fenders on this one. Do I have to just replace the hood? Maybe it would look allright if I can save the ones that are there, but I was looking for and easy way out... LOL Nothing is easy working on old iron. CJO13
I say 1940 FORD because of the V/8 on the hood (41 had the 4 and 6 cyl options so they did away with the v/8 stamped in the hood) and the raised section in the middle of the dash with the small Ford script. The 41's had a flat dash with a rectagular chrome Ford emblem. Here's some more info for the non-believers... Neal
'40 and '41 big trucks actually carried over '38-'39 big truck front fenders. Headlights are sealed beam but still in a bucket styled like the '35-'36 car and '38-'39 truck headlight bucket. The '40-'41 pickup headlights are in the fender and use the same headlight ***emblies as '40 cars. The '40-'41 big truck headlight stands with the little oval parking lights (which are the same thing as '37-'40 car interior lights except with gl*** lens instead of plastic) will fit '38-'39 trucks.
Damn....I get sidetracked for a minute and the "bickering" starts... Here's the pic(in the future, use either the "img" or "html" code to post pics)
NealinCA is correct. It is a '40. Narrow bullnose on hood ('41 had wider strip with FORD spelled out vertically). Gas tank in '40 (and '41 for that matter) 3/4 ton and larger was under seat, filler neck on p***enger side. '46 3/4 ton looked same as '46 1/2 ton, headlights in fenders, and not on stands.
Well Thanks guys, I think that I solved some of my problems today! I found a Parts pickup about 50 miles away. I could not p*** her up for the coin. Now all that I need to find is Rear fenders, Grille and Hood for a '40 1/2 ton Pickup.... Any body have some that the can afford to part with? CJO13
Good luck with your search. It took me 4 years to find a decent pair of rear fenders (40-46 are interchangeable) and I haven't been able to find a decent hood yet.
42/7 rear fenders are similar, but not quite interchangeable. Besides the obvious gas filler hole in drivers fender the mounting area at running boards is different.
Opps the damn cab is Not The Same! The mounting holes are all different.... Found this out after the 1/2 ton frame has most of the rust repair done and sandblasted... Now does anybody have any Ideas on using the 3/4 ton Frame with a shortbox and the 1/2 ton Front fenders. CJO13
