Groucho on here was kind enough to lend his talents in lowering the 64. It's a subtle change but I'm liking how it looks, going lower in the back soon. I decided to get the coils cut rather than heated or replaced with custom springs for now. One before and two after pictures.
i agree.. looks like the tires are too big, get some smaller ones and that might make it look just right. i had some 80's cadillac pull offs on my 63 and droped it to about that same height, i put some 14inch suprems and brought the thing down nicely. but agreed way to high. but its your car bro build it your way, if your happy with it run it.
According to Groucho he just cut a little at a time until it sat even. I wanted a 2" drop and that's just about how much I got. I am definetly going lower and the tires are a bit too large. Looking into getting them replaced soon.
What size are your tires? It does look too high still, but to each his own. Im getting ready to cut a couple coils out of my 67 ,just put some skinny whites on the steelies i'll get some pics up after I get it in the weeds.....
I am definetly going lower real soon but am not sure if I want it leveled out or lower in the back, as of right now I'm leaning more towards lower in the back. The pictures also don't do it justice, it actually looks much lower in person. My tires are larger than they should be but they came with the car and are fairly new so I'm gonna run 'em for a while.
I played around in PS for some inspiration. What do you guys think? Leveled or lower in the back? I'm diggin the ass down myself.
killer looking.... good to go liite at a time cause too far is too late, although i like them scrapping the ground
By the way- no bags. He drives it this way all the time. Watch the parking lot approaches, but otherwise very drivable. Rodshop
I love the ass a bit lower it gives it a "Faster" look if ya know what I mean, but lower the whole thing level first as far as you want the front to go down then do the back a bit more!
Having lowered a few of those caddy's before by cutting the springs, I would say that is the way to go. I think we cut about 3 coils for my bros 64 and it looked amazing and had a great ride. it gets stiffer as it gets lower due to the increase in spring rate from the less amount of coils and they actually start to handle real well. the back can get a bit stiff and bouncy though when going real low.
My 66 Rag with 14" Supremes...Drives like a dream! Not Hijacking just giving you an idea of what it could look like on 14's.
That thing sits real nice! Did you cut the coils? I'm not too concerned about the ride quality because I'll sacrifice comfort for looks. I'm more worried about scraping the hell out of it.
Well this pic was taken on my way back from Santa Maria a couple years ago when i drove it there from the Inland Empire, No Bouncing, No Swirving, Just floating like a Caddy should! Oh and i can't say that i didn't scrape a few times but since my car is not lifted or bagged...You just got to be careful for big dips and speed bumps...That's all! By the way, I heated the coils 2" all around (I kept measuring it as i went along to stay even) and then it came down a little more because it settles with the weight while driving. I am thinking about bagging her soon. Good Luck with your new ride!!
********************************************************************* That is stunning! Bet the Coupe & Roadster guys love it! I had a '56 Coupe DeVille in the early '60s, black, with all the original trim. Heinrichs lowered it in front by dropping the 'A' frames: (shackled the lower control arms at the ball joints) and cut a coil...2" Lowering blocks in rear, and flattened leaves. Yours makes me want to go find another Caddy!!!
I just don't understand this lowered Caddy stuff. AS IF!! Looks great bud , and I got another vote for a little lower all around but rear down slightly. Makes the front shot look more proud / pronounced as you drive up on it. Just my worthless .02 and I give change back
Back in the day (50s, early 60s) dropping the back (with lowering blocks) was all we did, that was "the look" back then.....
