Randy, glad you guys made it home safe and sound. The Merc looks great. Will next year's June meet be a Deuce/Merc meet? Keep us posted on the build. By the way, Lynda and I were in your neighborhood a week ago coming back from Winston-Salem. Maybe next trip north we'll stop by.

Randy, I don't know much about Canadian trucks, but didn't they used to make cars called "METEORS"??????-------Don

Very cool truck! I drove from Phoenix to Winnipeg to pick up a model a sedan several years ago. Does the truck have square drive screws, or Roberson drive, instead of Phillip heads in the interior?

  4. Randy -

Very Cool Canuck Truck! ... but I find it hard to believe this M-47 survived 61 years in (SNOWY) Canada with just surface rust ... but within a week in (HUMID) South Carolina, the front wheels have already rusted away!:

    Sanford & Son was a 51 F1 // See the frt grill

Nice Score I'm also surprised when you say Not rusty. Must of been kept in the barn and not driven in the winter months.

Look forward in seeing you progress. Is there much deferince in the drive train from a F1

Yes, Meteors were sold at Mercury dealers, the same as Mercury trucks. Meteors are basicaly a Ford with a different grill and name plates.

    Thanks for the update :D
Yours and the red one MoeFuzz has inspired me to find one and buy it.

I just wish mine was a good as yours or MoeFuzz's Mercurys.

  10. Randy, you don't waste any time between projects do you? You were short a daily driver and hauler anyway! I'm glad you took some time and enjoyed the sights in the Black Hills where we do the roadster cruise in May. Aren't road trips the best? We are still in SD for another month or so if you went by Sioux Falls on I-90 or I-29 you just missed me by a few miles. And I could have taken care of your Mexican food cravings here too!

    :D

I did think about how close you were, BUT I knew you have been jammed up for time trying to get to Arizona ... and the wife and I were just ROAD WEARY after this trip and the LA Roadster trip. After we left the Crazy Horse Memorial ... all we wanted was to be HOME safety and sleep in our own bed. In the last 60 or so days ... HALF of them or more ... we have been sleeping in motels

I will catch up with you in Arizona on my next trip to the LA Roadster show. By then, you should have figured out which Mexican place has the best food. :D

    As a side note ...
Went to the SC DMV today and got my title for the Mercury :)

I know that GOD has to be looking out for me because the DMV clerk had recently moved here from Manitoba, Canada. She had worked for the DMV in Canada. She knew about Mercury trucks and the Canadian way of property owership papers. She had to see the truck, verify the serial number ... took my application fees and issued me a new South Carolina title.

    SWEET !!
LOVE IT when a plan comes together ..

    Randy,
Congrats on your new project and a neat road trip. It looks like a great start!
If I recall correctly, you and I touched base over Zip's waterpump housings in the past. I am in process doing a 49 F-1 with a 383 stroker. I used the zips to center the SBC engine driven fan in the radiator. I did not offset the engine (not a bad idea however but it drives you in the direction of an electric fan). I test fit a bunch of different exhaust manifolds/headers. The angled back ramshorn will clear the pinion on the XJ-6 R&P which is the tight spot on the Jag/sbc exhaust. I am also 49willard over on the FTE 48-60 forum. There are some pics in my gallery. Contact me if I can help in any way and enjoy your new project.

PS The wheels on my F-1 are already painted red,... however the truck will also be red!

I can see it now. Low, shiny BLACK paint with red rims. Vintage Air and that extra ZZ430 engine that you already have. :D

I have never before seen the F-1 NITROFC posted ... but in my head ... that is the look and stance I had in mine for my old truck. When I saw it ... it was LOVE at once sight.

I now have a goal to work towards :D
and a good image in my mind of what I am trying to accomplish.

I was just reading this thread a couple of weeks ago and wondered what happened to the truck. Looks like I got my answer today. Love it!

Yes ... see the rims I powder coated and the rare Mercury hubcaps.
The Jag IFS and the Explorer rear end I did. It even has the Silverado rollover engine and transmission.

I would have painted it a green ... sort of like what is on Mrs. HRP's wagon ... but the color on it does match the rims and look good.

    :)

  26. Are those the rims you had on the coupe when you drove up here to the cruse-in? HRP

    Yes ... the very same.
When my roadster's engine caught fire ... I did not need two projects
SO I sold the M-47 pickup. The new owner actually finished it a LOT nicer than I would have. I just wanted a dependable, safe old truck. I would have had a hard time painting over the doors ...
