I found this on e bay and thought it might look cool on something or is it gay to run one of these on a car. Anybody got pics of cars with them mounted off the windows?
Seems cool to me. It would look good on a car with a "family vacation" theme. You know the type where they put the old Dr. Pepper cooler and a bunch of luggage on the roof? Especially wagons.
I remember a fenderless yellow 32 Ford sedan from Cali that had one off the window a few yrs ago and thought it added a little something to the car. Even if i dont use it maybe i'll just hang it on the garage wall...LOL
Those pop up on Ebay every once in a while. I thought about adding one to my wagon, but wondered about the gheyness of it, too... I may just do it anyway - you know us Michigan types.
Down here, the lowrider guys dig those. I like 'em...I wouldn't use it on a ride with a big chop though, because it'll eat up lots of window visability. I think it would look cool all painted up and striped.
Great convesation piece!! Nobody knows what they are or what they do. Mad57olds has a whole collection of them.....
i have one of those swamp coolers over here in the uk,think i may use it for the truck it may look kind kool......Marq
I have one. I used it on a 840 mile trip through Texas and Oklahoma in July. It MAY give you some slight bit of comfort, MAYBE. I think its the reason real air conditioning was invented
I have one, used it in the wagon for awhile and plan to use on my sedan rear qtr window I bought mine from a vato in Cal..
Those are evaporative coolers. Work fair in dry climates, but not worth shit in humid areas. Like manyolcars said, real air conditioning is a vast improvement over these. More for looks with the low-rider crowd than actual function.
I dig'em. I'm looking for one to put on my truck. There was a company that was reproducing them a few years back for the VW scene. I know that I saw an add for the company somewhere in my stacks of VW Trends or HOT VW's magazines.
HAHAHA! I was looking at those last night! There's two of them on Ebay from here in town right now. I was really wondering if they work worth a damn. Also, how do they work? You just fill them with ice or cold water to cool the air? If so, I'd be worried about all the extra weight that would put on my old window. I have to agree with BARNETT about the visibility. My car isn't chopped, but it's lowered with no external mirrors. I think one of those would completely obscure my passenger window.
The Late Richard "SAM" Samson used to use one on his SHEBAD for years. Low cost air as long as you going down the road. I've heard them called SWAMP COOLERS as they could start smelling like a swamp after a while if not cleaned.
Boones, Thats the first one have seen that is exactlly like mine. Same sticker and all, except mine is hammer finish green rather than brown. I love mine and I like the fact it goes with me from car to car.
Funny, I thought the same thing when I was little. My goof-ball Studebaker neighbor has one on his 51. I rode with him in it back in the summer, it seemed to work as long as their was another window open and we were moving. But it did stink, smelled like wet dog. I do like the look though...
i have heard em called cactus coolers... anyone else? if nothing else,. they make a kool wall hanger,,, hell stick it on the window of your garage door and use it as a mailbox! Traves
If I had one I would run it an not give a crap whether the gay police liked it or not, they don't set my rules. Oh and don't forget the canvas desert waterbag to hang on the grill.
This one i picked up looks like air just blows threw it. Not sure which ones take the ice but i wouldn't think the ice would last very far. My sedan should be pretty good just tilting the front windsheild open at highway speeds but i'm still undecided if i want to hang it on the 29 or leave it on the garage wall.
Yup. I was thinking it would look cool on my bug. But it's a super, too new for such antiquity. Would be nice on a split window though. Or a ratty bus maybe.
