got a question, got some bugs and dirt in my clear over the weekend, so i hit it with 1000, 1500, n then 2000 all with a block . On some of the curves and lines i used a soft block, all disappeared, well looked good so i buffed it, when i got done the sheen was great but i could still see every stinkin one of them.:( what did i do wrong thanx for any help

My guess is you didn't sand deep enough.

I think the particle of imperfection attracts the paint to it from all sides including the bottom and pulls the color up and out so that when you sand it you break the coats open and can see down into the layers. I don't think you can fix a bug or dirt just with a sand out reliably. Sorry, maybe some one here can offer you a way to correct it.

Probably the compound wasnt course enough and buff again .Sometimes new paint needs to be cut a couple of times

  5. maybe your block was too soft, allowing just the top to be taken off , but not completely flattening the inclusion.

the problem is,when a bug or anything else lands on your wet paint,it goes all the way down to the color coat, and when you sand the color coat,it sticks out like a sore thumb.wait for it to dry, sand and paint the panel over.

did they land in the clear when you were done, or were they on there and you kept clearing??!! usually when a bug lands in the clear they walk around a little and die. you can sand them and thier footprints out no problem. but if you clear over them, that's a different story.

When wet sanding take a squegee and wipe down the area from time to time. By doing this you'll easily notice wether there is still texture (orange peel or drips/runs) in the clear. You'll want it to look all scuffed uniformaly then move on to the finer paper.

if you have to spray outside, make a frame from pvc pipe and fittings, and some plastic sheeting, set up a box fan to draw fumes out, and there you have it !

You can see the bug and the actual piece of dirt, or you can still see the shinny lump in the clear? If you can still see the bug and pieces of dirt then you're F'd and have to repaint the panel. If you are just seeing the shinny lump, then you didn't sand it down flat enough. Use a harder block. A paint stick works for sanding over the dirt nibs. You can also squegee it dry to see if you have it sanded enough, like kirk said
