Im on the studebaker drives club site(i have a 64 stude wagon project) and the 259's are not worth much. they have a cool look but real no hi-po after market. if you lived closer i would take it off your hands.
Timing gears no chain, forged crank, short stroke, nearly bulletproof, there is vintage aftermarked support for manifolds. Great exhaust note through dual exhaust. Nah just kick it to the curb, but post your address first.
try http://www.studebakerdriversclub.com/V8EngineID.asp has a bunch of info for decoding the engine, or car stamps. plus if you want to sell the stuff try the forum.
259's not worth much? Drop it off at my place. They are about the most bullet proof engine ever built. Look what this 259 does with no blower... Stude heads with Chevy valves, homemade intake, Home made HEI ign, AMC JEEP headers, stock-block 259 Studie. This unwanted baby blows the doors off cars with engines twice it's size. Send me the engine if you don't want it.
I drove a 1960 Lark VIII in highschool. I paid $30 for it. Not only was it fast and tough, with the 3 spd + overdrive, it got up to 24 MPG! $5 gas went a long way then!! I always liked it better than the 289 Stude, which my brother ran. I thought the 259 just ran better. Seems I recall that Smokey Yunick had this theory about the ideal connecting rod length to stroke ratio, and the 259 is right on it. It sure revved well. Sometimes I shop for 1957 Silverhawks, they had 259's and 3 OD. Kind of like a Pre-Camero.
