Just want to let you guys know about a event that took place last weekend, July 31st,here on our Island. This event came about in early spring when Chris was approached but a local drag strip to put off a event in Andys memory. What was set up by Chris and Island Racing was a day at the races for local hot rodders in which all proceeds would go to the Ronald McDonald House. If you not familiar with this place, it is a home away from home for sick children. Andy spent time there when he went away for his treatments. and it was a great help for Andy and his family. They are in the works now in building one here so children from around the Island that are sick can have a place to stay when in St. Johns. With that said, The event was put off this p*** weekend. The weather was not the best at the start of the day and we thought for sure that the days event would be canceled due to the poring rain. Myself and a small number of other locals did not let the weather stop us. But at around one oclock the rain stopped and the sun came out. We set up a little racing event and made the day a great bit of fun. There was a Good turn out despite the rain and we started of the event with Chris taking Andys car for the first p*** of the day. It was great to see the car out and being used. Everybody had a blast and all moneys raised from racers and on the gate as well in the sales in hot dogs went to Ronald McDonald House. Here is a bunch of pictures of Andys car and some of the local hot rods. enjoy.
Thanks for the info, and especially for the pics of HAMBAndy's ride. It's also the first time, I've seen pics of the Seller's caps on the car! They certainly are the finishing touch on that fine Model A !
Thanks for posting. Is that "the" Chris from the HAMB? That really turned out to be one *****in' sedan for Andy! Sorry I never met him. Looks great at the christmas tree.
Looks like it was a blast ! Tell Chris the Caddy looks great with the new wheels !! The Sellers hubcaps are really neat....wouldnt have an extra event poster hanging around would ya
Fitzee, are copies of the event poster available to purchase? I'd sure like to help support the event in that way, it's such a worthy cause.
One last note. Before Andy had his car built he spent many a night with his father in his F47. The two of them did more then their share of burn out togeather. So when the day of racing came to a close Chris took the old F47 and did one for Andy.He kill both rear tires and came dam close to killing the engine. Chris didn`t care,it for Andy. Here is The video. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3fpvBObCaO4&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3fpvBObCaO4&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
I have a few event posters at the shop. Don`t know how many Chris has left. I`ll have to look into that.
Very Happy to see Andy being remembered! I credit to ya'll for organizing this! One of the most meaningful burnouts I've watched........... HC.
What a great way to honor Hamb Andy. His car looks fantastic. I miss him. He brought us all together like never before.
I missed the race due to some personal issues...but my heart was there I tell ya! A lot of those vehicles you see are owned by great people who helped us out in the HambAndy build. EG; The silver Pro/sled is owned by Don Ryan, the BLUE blood Ford guy who fired up Andys car for him and tuned it to perfection. The sled has a SERIOUS big inch 460 that gives most muscle cars a nervous twitch. You can take the boy outta Drag racing, but...etc. Hey...is that Michael J. Fox in the "life vest"???
fitzee - A very cool & fitting way to honor Andy! ... it should be an annual event ... thanks for sharing.
Cool Burnout Chris ! I thought the race was rained out , I hope that this is the first anual race with many many more to come ! Great job .
