I've been watching that car. It's been for sale for a couple of years now. Different.

I'd imagine that's a South African car, quite a common conversion over there. I've seen a number of Chevy's of 40's and 50's vintage that have been imported to the UK with a similar style set up. Never seen one that looked any good though!

Race-car material! Just replace that lunchbox with a 'gl*** lid and a shelf wing, and stick the wing struts down into the patch panel below the lunchbox. Bam-- looks better.

But then, you'd want to have big tires and big motor and lots'a CM tubing everywhere before it actually started looking good.

Looks to me like the car wasn't cut to put the bed/box in it.
I'd think the seller(?) would convert it back to a trunk lid so it'd be more desireable?

But what the hell do I know about '55 Chevy's with Model A tricks done to them....

Looks convienient for hauling stuff. If you're like me, and it's just not your thing, it looks like it would be easy to convert back to stock.

  11. I've seen a couple of model A coupes with this conversion done. It's a poor man's pickup when you didn't have enough $ for both. I think they did them when they were fairly new. What are they asking for that thing, it looks easy enough to convert back.

Man...that thing is worth a mint... It's the rare, factory prototype for the CAMEO.... Way, way before they started usin' fibergl*** bed sides!

Many 'pre war' cars (including tons of madel A,s) were converted with pickup boxes installed in the trunk. You could get more 'gas rations' if you drove a pickup during the war.
That '55, obviously wasn't done for that reason, someone musta figured it was a cheap way to have both a car and pickup. Sure could be changed back easy enough.

What it needs is to be set on a lifted Blazer Frame and a set of 35" Swampers.

well, As it is, it should be a sin. But with a new lid it could be a pretty good ride. Sadly, it should be way overpriced, its on hemmings.
