anyone know what the standard height is for a BBC points distrib.

just mocking up my fancy new firewall... but it seems I may have to ditch my dual point dist. with tach drive...

I really don't want to move the engine forward... everything works pretty well where it's at...
I'd like to stick to a points distributor... but if I have to, I will go with a new fangeled distributor.. whats it called? electronic distributor.. or something?

    thanks for any help...

Big block, small block, same dist. ONLY differences are advance curves. There are 'low profile' ones available (normally used with blower, tunnel rams, etc.) Or you could use a 'plug' with pump drive and a crank trigger.

oh, I forgot to add.... I'm on a budget... ;)

does my distr. look higher than normal? It has the tach drive on the back side...

all I need is an inch or so less....

(never thought I'd say that... )

see if you can locate a crab style dist cap, they might be available from accel. it will have a low profile and the plug wires come out the side not the top.[hense crab cap] because it looks like a crab.
    hope that helps
ps, also msd might have one that fits ,my bros drag car uses the msd.
their 50.00 but alot easier then mod the firewall.

Crab cap will clear cowlings, exotic intakes and air cleaners. ❚ Mechanical advance is easy to adjust and set for your engine. ❚ Maintenance-free magnetic pickup provides accurate trigger signals. Having a huge huffer mounted on top of your engine is cool, but can lead to limited choices for a distributor. Same goes for tri-power carb setups and big air cleaner assemblies, so we decided to morph our Crab Cap crank trigger distributor with a standard Chevy model to come up with the Flat-Top! This distributor sits low in the engine block, then is topped with our special Crab Cap that positions the spark plug terminals horizontally to give you plenty of clearance. The distributor incorporates a mechanical advance assembly that you can easily tune with the supplied springs and stop bushings. For trigger accuracy, a maintenance-free magnetic pickup is used. This pickup plugs directly into an MSD Ignition Control. The Flat-Top Distributor is supplied with our Dupont, Rynite molded distributor cap and rotor along with a heavy duty gear for long life in your engine.

    John,

Looks to me like you could just put some 90 degree ends on you spark plug wires at the cap end and it would fit.

Will the cap go on without the wires attached?

    looks good bubba...

if it's under 6 1/2" from the base (where it goes into the intake man.) to the top of the cap... It will work for me. :p

    PM sent.
