I like boobs and fake boobs.
I like cars with patina and fake patina.
I also like brisket slow cooked on a smoker and brisket cooked in the oven marinated with liquid smoke.

This one was at my local car show a month or so ago. Not a fan of fake patina but to each their own.

Come to think of it.... Put multiple coats of primer on it. That way when the fad goes away and all these cars are up for sale, at least they'll be well protected, nice, project cars. :D

Faux Patina is like art! [ it does require some talent ]

If half the critics like it, and half the critics hate it.
It's still better than no critics seeing at all.

Is a new HA / GR "faux patina"? is any freshly built "traditional rod" ???

The amount of people squabbling about Faux Patina on this forum proves the point

As I already stated, I really don't dig the Fake patina thing. However, I learned in my misspent Teenage years, that a heat pack from an MRE, when opened, and poored into a 2 liter bottle of water, will expand and explode, and the contents of the bottle will fade out and eat through automotive paint in a very convincingly "aged" way......I always used it on people I didn't like, but if riuning your own paint job is what you're into, I suppose you could do it to your own rod.

-Just stand back, If it does that to paint, I'd hate to think what it would do to skin.

And I bet you're spraying it with no mask and a Lucky Strike hanging out of your mouth using an old siphon feed spray gun behind your grandma's farm in a barn with a dirt floor and single filament lightbulbs. Make sure if you're using enamel to heat it up on the woodstove first and dump the waste on the ground behind the barn when you're done. If you do all this then maybe you truely are "traditional"

New paint that lookes like old rusted faded patina is just lame. As far as I'm concerned it is just another stupid trend that hopefully will be very short lived.

Here is one I did for my wife this weekend. Do what you want..It is your car. The dash is not fake..it has never been redone ..it is original. It is a great way to enjoy a car and not break the bank on new chrome, etc. Tim

I don't care for faux patina myself but I did have an issue with our 39 Ford. The car had a great patina that we wanted to keep but as you can see in the pics the fender was primed plus it had some funky headlights and we didn't like that.
Hardest paint job I ever did was to match the paint. I painted the whole right fender, front around the headlight on the left and the lower part of the right door. Making the paint look "laquer checked" was the toughest. Using lacquer I painted the fender white then took a heat gun and heated it till it just started to blister. Without touching it I sprayed the blue over it, just enought to cover. Started sanding till the crinkled white just started to show, then melted it all in with straight thinner. The bare metal areas showing were done with spray mask sponged on to give the random edge. Came out well enough most folks can't tell the fender is not original paint!

  18. And park it outside in the weather for a winter. Wash the heck out of it but dont wax. Use some Castrol Super clean instead of car wash. I found out this works real well by accident. I got an effect I wasnt really after:eek:

Real vs Fake Patina math -

    Real Patina :
Take the number of shows you attend per year.
Divide into that, the number of times someone remarks "when u gunna paint it"?
(The answer will always be 1).
This is a constant law in patina math which can never have a different answer.

    Fake Patina :
Take the number of shows you attend per year.
Divide into that the number of times someone says " I wasn't sure if it was real or fake"?
( the answer will always be 1)
This also is a constant law in patina math which can never have a different answer.

Thus the 1st and 2nd laws of patinadynamics.....
