I found myself with a 73 Camaro rear-end that had no perches or saddles and a huge hole in it due to a drunken redneck buddy of mine with a cutting torch. I know, I know, I can't blame anyone but myself for listening to him, but me being new to the car game I didn't know any better. The lesson that I learned is my reason for this thread, if you have the $ and you find yourself doing a 350 conversion and plan on doing it once right. BUY CH***IS ENGINEERING PLEASE!!!!!! I great buddy of mine TCNOTCH here on the Hamb came in and saved the day by letting me steal the springs and rearend off of his car that he is building. Once again it's proved that the best people on earth are found on the HAMB! Sam
'...it's proved that the best people on earth are found on the HAMB!" It appears that the WORST people on earth are found standing with a beer in one hand and a cutting torch in the other? dj
Makes me think back over 20 years when drunk neighbors were going to help me out by cutting the inner bearing race off my spindle. I ended up buying a new spindle
ummm.... the adult beverages come AFTER the tools are put away. nobody should be drinking with a torch in their mitts.
He drinks beer everyday until he gets the whole bobble head thing going! He really has helped me through this thing, but he **** the bed on this one for sure.
just set the beer down & step back . Or..... Set the torch down & get drunker then a rat. decisions, decisions. Ummmm !
Alcohol and car building don't mix. I'm going to be pushing anything I build as hard as it will go, and I don't want any drunken half***edness to kill me. I don't let buddies drink in the garage while work is being done either, even if they're just watching.
I'm not saying that the rearend with the hole in it is trashed, I'm getting married in 68 days and I didn't have time to order more parts. I know that you can't rush these things, but my future wife's only wish is to have our car at the wedding, and as we all know, "a happy wife makes for a happy life".
--------------------------- Hmmm?? Maybe not the worst, but certainly the most dangerous!! Cutting torches, cars and extreme sleep deprivation don't go too well together either. Don't ask me how I know.....but believe me, I know and you don't want to know! Mart3406 ==========================
X2. I don't see the issue. I have had many newbies cut into the housings when I let them cut perches off.
