Any GM Rear end "Experts" in the house???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tugmaster, Aug 8, 2010.

  1. My 50 Chevy has a 94 S-10 4X4 rear end with 3.42 gears. I would like to change over to 2.73 gears. I found the 2.73 gears but... it says if your going over to anything less than 3.08 from a higher gear I need to change the carrier also. Then I looked at speedway motors. They sell this spacer.

Will this solve my dilema without having to change my carrier?
    Thanks as always. Todd

Doesn't work that way, only works going from higher (numerically lower) to lower gears. Like installing 4.11 on 2.73 carrier.

  4. ****!!!!! Thanks for the info. I guess my best bet will be to look for a complete rear in the width I need (60") with the right gears. Todd

Todd, I do not think you will find an s10 4wd rear with 2.73 gears...
Lots of 2nd gen (70 to 81) camaro rears came with them ..
And they are 60" wide (more or less )

BTW, what trans do you have ? 3.42 and od trans works perfect !

3.42 was probably the most popular gear, especially with the 4x4's, you might luck out and find a lower (numerically) rear end in the junkyard, most have been 3.42.
AWD astro vans share a few common parts with the 4x4 s-10's. around here theres lots of e in the junkyards.

    i was running 3.42's with a 700r4 and 35" tires on my s-10 blazer.

    :D

  7. I'm running a TH350. I was thinking of going to a 200-4r or a 700r4 but I'm thinking going with a diffent ratio might be a less expensive comprimise. I'm looking for something a little more highway friendly. Todd
