Does Lady Luck knee me in the crotch or give me a gentle push in the right direction?

Anyhoo, there we are minding our own business, heading up the freeway for the third and final instalment of the Hot Rod Hayride last Sunday, when all of a sudden the ride gets decidedly choppy. We slow down, and it gets even choppier, then, BANG!

So, we pulled oh so gently in to a nearby gas station to survey the damage. Well, after much consideration, we decided the Tireweld was probably not an option and with my spare wide whites now mounted on Janes '59 Burb, and the Kart not carrying a spare it looked like international rescue was needed.
Fortunately, Jane and my friend Jeff's better half Karen were waiting at the Hayride with Jeffs '57 Chevy stepside complete with trailer (TRAILER QUEEN TRAILER QUEEN) that had been used to transport Jeffs tractor (long story) there. So they packed up, set out, and saved the day!
Now, I need to find a set of tires in time for the vehicle inspection last Tuesday. Now whitewalls don't grow on trees over here, but I managed to score a set of American Classics, but they only had them with a 2 3/4" white wall, which was a bit bigger than I had planned. My chrome reverse smoothies were stacked with no shoes, so the easiest and cheapest way out was to throw the classics straight on the chromies a la plan b in my initial thread, along with the wild adapted baby moons
I'm actually really stoked about the way it turned out, and I figure that although white walls got thinner in to the early '60s era I was aiming for, there's something about wide whites that scream show car, which I also was aiming for.
    What do you think?
    Hit or miss?

IMO the wider w/w's better match the stripes thickness on the truck's paint & looks right.

If fate means you have a great looking truck then fate it is....

I don't think you could have planned it better.

    Wow,thanks

Ya see, this is why I hang out here. Traditionaly inspired Kustoms are a relatively new thing over here. The idea of cutting up cars from the fifties has always been relatively taboo, with most people only aspiring to the dream of owning a stock American classic. This board is such a huge source of information and inspiriation to those of us who weren't there during the golden age of Kustoms. Being able, from thousands of miles away, to pick the brains and garnish HONEST (particularly negative if I fuck up) input from guys that were there and their descendants is invaluable. I love Kustoms, they are one of the reasons I still bother to get out of bed in the morning and it is important to me that my Kemp should be a fitting tribute in an uninformed land to this most inventive, stylish yet unappreciated and misunderstood American automotive artform.
Thanks guys, you are the real deal.

When I first built my truck, I had thin whites and steel wheels. It looked 60s and tough. I saved my $ and bought Diamondback wide whites, now it is 50s custom, with a tough wheel. Ripple caps and big bullet centers now complete the custom look. Amazing what tires and wheels can do for you. With caps and such, I can change up the looks in no time. Like Barbie, I can accessorize! I'm all about the wide whites.

  29. if your going to have whitewalls they should be wide.
