I stripped my 35 with razor blades. Took all the paint off except for a small amount of factory primer. Just go easy and use a new blade often. A body shop streetrodder gave me the idea.
I also stripped my paint with razor blades, although the blades did not really do much to the primer. It is easy to gouge any lead work with a razor. I used a honey comb looking thing that you mount in a drill to remove some of the prime ... not too happy with that. I then tried a random-orbital electric sander that takes a 5" round sandpaper disc. The sanding disc's have a velcro backing that makes changing them extremely easy. Loved the 5" electric, I'll be stripping the last of it (two front fenders) tomorrow. (the paint has already been razored off, I just need to remove the primer). Wear a mask, and not one of those paper "sport crotch cups", get a real dust respirator.
I used a gel type paint stripper on the roof of my Buick. I did small areas at a time (2'x2'). Used about 12" pieces of cardboard to move it around and take it off. Worked great. Followed that up with 120 paper and three coats of urethane primer.
these 3m disks work great i use the green witch is 80 grit then the white after. you can find them in 8" and work great
we used to use the aircraft paint remover and cover it with saran wrap to keep it from evaporating too fast, seemed to take off more paint and would soften up the most stubborn paint without any problem......Scott
media blasting is great, although if you want someone to come out to you soda blasting or walnut shells is pretty cool...never had that done
I use Rock Miracle brand gel paint stripper. Works great, especially if you scuff up the surface to give it more surface area/crevices in the paint to work with before applying it. Did my entire truck (in and out) with it. Used about 2 gallons.
Beinng an Ex-Corvette guy, you can't use paint stripper on Fibergl*** and Sand-blasting eats it all away. Simple solution Blast it with Baking Soda [ it really works well ] it is also very friendly on parts like hinges etc [where sand can get in ] Soda blasting is good for cleaning Aluminum to look new again [as cast] I've also done old carbs etc
^^ X2 Nothin' like Soda Blasting! I've tried every way known to man, but Soda Blasting is my favorite method. There are some limitations and you have to wash it with a solution before paint, but it works great.
Formuls is,checkbook balance x ambition level. The next post with razor blades is good if your not in a hurry.
these are the best thing i've used so far to strip paint, they work soooo good, and will prolly need about 5 or 6 to do a car. a little pricey at 10 bucks each but totally worth it. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/...S4K7_nid=036H3XVM54gsRJ5GMFSMV0glL5VTLFF1FZbl
