Hey guys, I'm having a hoot of a time getting my Dynaflow trans. to go into the spline of the torque-tube.

I'm pretty sure the splines are mated, the trans. just won't go back far enough on the splines. Any attempt to push the motor back just ends up moving the whole unit. Any advice?

I'm going to try lubing it up and pushin' on some things to see if it'll go. I'm hoping it's just a little crusty.

    Thanks in advance,
    Victor.

The Dynaflow -Torque tube set up is the 8th circle of hell. Call Setve at Lee Myles transmission in West Roxbury Mass. The guy is pretty good with 'em. He'll probably give you some solid quick advice if he has a minute.

Yeah, I know they're terrible for just about everything and any sort of modification, but I don't see why it would be so bad going from stock-to-stock. I'm just trying to put the darn thing back together.

I had to replace the torque ball seal on mine last year. What a pain but I used a come-along to pull it apart by hooking the cable from the axle to the rear crossmember and pull it pack in by hooking the cable around the axle and the hook on the front of the X crossmember. I got it as lined up as I could and it was a bitch to get to slide in. Make sure that the back wheels are up off of the ground and as your wiggling it in there, have a buddy move the back wheels slighty to get the splines lines up. The come-along is good to because you can control it from where you are trying to line it up. It will go on there easily once lined up properly--don't force it with too much pressure it will be harder do line up. Less force more wiggle. Oh and call my buddy Razz back he still wants those windows.

Loooong ago I was told that the engine had to me mounted first with torque tube hanging below the tranny, probably with force, and then using a come along or chain hoist pull the rear end back untill the t/tube will be real close to alignment. then slowly relieve the pressure on the device as you guide the shaft into place.when you are sure of the alignment continue to loosen the pressure and the shaft should go where it needs to go. Never done it myself but I believed the guy that told me as he was pretty sharp.I hope something works. Hang in there

Yeah, this is what I was going to try next. I've had the back wheels up and have been spinning the tire to try to get it lined up. Now I'm going to try it with a come-along.

I don't have Razz's contact info. anymore so he'll have to get a hold of me. I still have the windows if he wants them.

Thanks for the advice, I'm not sure how you'd get it in the spline if the t-tube is below the tranny. I mean you can move the ball on the transmission to a different angle, but to me, it seems like that would be quite a lot of fooling around, but... I've had no luck yet so I can't really talk. :p

I would check the splines one by one to see if there are any burrs on both transmission and torque tube sides. Not really sure about splines and if they are uneven or have gaps in the splines, but if this is the case, this may be your problem. I wil try and check my 57 Dynaflow splines for gaps and unusual spacing.

Thanks d2, I'm probably going to move the engine forward and check the splines.
