My 50 Ford has a Tuned Port 350 with a 700R4 ******. In its current configuration, the lockout is 1 wire to a toggle switch. It's a manual set-up. As I look at the kits to get rid of the toggle switch, I've noticed that the set-up appears to be for a carb set-up. I'm trying to figure out why my fuel injected car is using a set-up like this. I'm running an Accel ECM, but I have no info on it. I guess my question is - Can I connect the ****** to the ECM like the original design? Thanks. Dustin
You can set the 700r4 trans for lock up in over drive only , when the trans shifts to 4th gear(over drive). I doubt the Accel control unit you have on the EFI is configured for trans converter lock up. The ECM has no way of knowing what gear the trans is in at any given point in time
You're right, I just read that the lock-up was an option with the Accel ECM. It's current configuration works, but I'm wanting to eliminate the toggle switch and have it lock-up automaticaly. I see a ton of kits, guess I'll do a little more research and pick one.
Even simpler- just install a brake switch from a 79 vette. Use the connectors for the cruise to lock & unlock the converter. Hit brakes & converter unlocks. That's how I did mine.
In your 1st post- you say you have 1 wire to lock up ******. You'll have to drop the pan to see which wire is what. Mine had 3 wires but I only used one. Only used the OD lock-up solonoid & removed the rest & plugged. Grounded the solonoid inside the case. You don't need an overpriced "kit" to lock up the converter. The switch is about $12.00 & works fine.
You don't need a toggle switch. As stated , just run the one wire to the lock up solenoid and ground it through a pressure switch in the 4th gear port on the VB. As soon as you slow lift the throttle and slow down ,the trans downshifts to 3rd and unlocks the converter. You can run the 12v feed through the cruise brake pedal switch too ,if you want. If you want to add some more to the system , pick up a vacuum release switch from and 80's type lock up Chevy pick up and put that in line too. When you climb a hill and the vacuum goes away , it'll unlock the converter for about 15 seconds or so. I like the toggle switch for the mile long blocks here in the valley. 4th, lock up is a bit much at 45 -50 mph . I just switch it on for the freeways.
that is an external pressure kit setup. if the trans case does not have the pressure ports on the outside, that kit will not function
Wire up a relay to the front (towards the engine) outside (toward the left of the vehicle) pin of the four pin connect to a 12 volt source. Run the switch wire to the brake light wire. When you hit the brakes, the converter unlocks.
