well i have a couple of questions for a friend.. he has a 55 Plymouth Savoy 2 door hardtop, and he's wondering what are the possible issues in swaping the drive train from a 53 Dodge Coronet 4 door in to the Plymouth. the Coronet has a 241 Hemi with a 3 speed manual, and he is wondering if there was overdrive.? aswell the engine mounts, and last will the rear axles be the same length and if not how far off.. ( thats basicaly the scrible i'm getting) yeah yeah.. this is a serious lack of info but anything will help.. so engine mounts/ and can parts from other hemi's mate up easily? and which makes? is there overdrive on the Coronet 3 speed manual? aswell will the trans mounts on the Plymouth ( 3 on the tree) match the Coronets? last are the rear diff's the same length? and if not which is the longer.. and which one is the better/stronger one? thanks for your time...
I'll offer a couple of thoughts. The 241 has a front mount that sits on the crossmember the same as the 6 does. Likely that the holes will be in the same place, if not get out the drill and make some. O/D trans were available but are now scarce and very expensive. The trans crossmember is likely in the right place. The 55 axle is marginally better, keep it. .
That 241 didn't happen to come from Lethbridge did it? If so I can give you a bit of background on the car as it was in my family for most of its life. **edit - sorry, that wouldn't have been mine as I had a "gyromatic" transmission**
Plenty of parts available. You can do a completely stock rebuild or go kinda wild (at least as far as a 241 is concerned...lol). PM dmarv for a Offenhauser intake, and if you have specific questions we would be happy to help. If you are 'jumping in with both feet' on the swap then you might consider looking at a 5-speed and later rear axle. .
Was the Savoy a 6 cyl or a 8 cyl. The drag links and tie rods are completly different so that they will clear the oil pan.
