    If Flat plates turn you off I think the solution is simple;

    Send them to Safariknut for a touch up. They'll still be flat but they'll look right.

  5. I believe these have something to do with highway traffic cameras.

    I don't think Arizona has gone to the flat ones yet. When I got my last plate I paid extra for the "Historical Vehicle" plate. They've been making these plates for years. They're stamped copper, with red numbers/letters. Pretty cool looking considering how lame the regular ones look.

    Listen up boys and girls. I'll give you a short course in Govt.101. EVERY time the government changes the way they do something it's ALWAYS cheaper to do. ALWAYS!!!! Another truth. They ALWAYS look for ways to take more money from YOU. Now, with this applied to our current topic, the new plates are cheaper to make. PERIOD!!! Knowing this it would not surprise me that the implimentation of the new plates is accompanied with a rise in the licence fees. I hope I won't have to go over this again. REMEMBER, the government is NOT your friend when it comes to your pocketbook. Class dismissed.

    When I picked up my first set for the daily driver I asked "You got these in stamped?"

    haha.. The fuckers are thin alumalloy of some sort, and you could damn near cut yourself like a razor with them.

    The nice thing is they flex nicely and conform to curves. Nothing ever gets built better as time goes on it seems.

    Tman, I used to know a guy with all the S.Dak plates and the first ones were early teens I think. They were leather with metal numbers kind of riveted on.
    One cool thing we can do here is register as a classic if it is over 25 years old and use plates the same year as the vehicle if we want. I have an unused set of 1969 plates for my 69 Ford crewcab that cost me about $30 from a vender. Or we can aslo register them as Antique or historic and only have to reregister every other year I think. To use the vintage plates will cost me an extra $15 per year on top of about $50 for registration fees.

    show how much longer until someone gets one on a english wheel? as far as I know IL still has stamped plates. neat thing is the DMV here has a webpage on the older single years plates. seems when they changed the color every year it would represent a university or such. kinda tempting to take your new plates and repaint them whatever color. I hope they don't go flat here would really suck. the only why I would run a flat plate is if it is a heavy gauge so it won't bend like tinfoil. my front plate won't clear parking blocks and such and always end up bending the crap out of it. I wish I could get historic plates but they don't let you daily drive on them

    Indiana's are flat and all the one's I have gotten recently have still been aluminum. It makes it really nice to form them around your roll pan now without all those stamped numbers

    But Peddro, isn't $800 Aus the same as $36 US?

    Here in MA, the plates are still stamped and they cost $40ish for two years, except the vanity plates which are $50 every year, plus 5% sales tax on a new purchase and $50 for the title swap. And lets not forget the exise tax...

  22. Double that for my daily driver pu truck. Plus since it is an odd year truck (1989) I have to get an E-check done before I can plates this year. E-checks are done by the year of the car....last year was the even year cars. $72.00 for plates and $20.00 for the e-check and I usually get just a sticker but this year I am getting a set of the flat plates too!

    In CT they all have Playstation & Gamecubes.

    But just to prove how assbackwards CT is, since 58 when the first antuque plates came out, they were flat steel then about 2 years ago they reissued them in stamped steel.
