Even better, less work. If I happen to find a bare axle cheap, can the car spindles go on as well? I found a complete spindle/brake setup locally.
The backing plates are a different bolt pattern from car to truck so they must be used respectivly, but the spindle swap I don't know....
No, spindles won't work. The p***enger spindles will physically bolt on, but the king pin inclination angle is different p***. to pick up. With the p***. spindles on a truck axle, you'll end up with about 2-3 degrees of negative camber. I just helped go through this with a guy that calls himself Hightone 101 here on the boarda couple of weeks ago, so no fuzzy memories, I'm dead sure.
I have one already converted if you want it. planned on making a g***er, then changed my mind. I can bring it to the hamb drags. I have 1 set stock and 1 set shortened springs (brand new), hangers, etc from a 51 truck. lemme know.
okay !!! ... I'm ***uming your wanting to put car hubs onto a standard '47 - '54 chev truck axle ??? If so I just did this conversion on my '54 chev truck last month ~ works like a charm and it is so easy to do ... "trust me" ... if I can do it, anyone can ! I used '53 chev car hubs which go right onto the truck spindles ~ same truck backing plate ~ same races and bearings ~ use the car dust cover that goes between the hub and backing plate ~ do not use the 2" car brake shoes, use the 1 3/4" shoes ... a couple of hours and your done ... simple !!! Hope this works for you brother ... cheers
Thanks a bunch guys. I did some trading and ended up with a Corvair on an S-10 ch***is. I still have to go all the way to West Virginia to get it. I plan to cut the front frame rails off, build a new subframe out of rectangle tubing, mount up a truck axle, and put in the Hemi that's under my workbench.
