The last few days as I have been driving to work, I have noticed a sign on US 175 that says "Dallas Raceway... coming mid-summer 2005". It's at the edge of what is now an open field, just east of Crandall on the south side of 175. The sign shows a wheel-standing generic mid-30s coupe, so I am thinking this means "dragstrip", but for all I know it's gonna be a left-turn dirt track. Anybody know anything about this?
Just talked to my pops and he said yes this is true. The guy building it is a King of the Hill racer with big bucks. He tried to buy Redline Raceway in Royse City but the owner would not sell do to conflicts with employees needing to be employed for the next five years. Anyways he decided to build there in Crandall. Gonna be a nice state of the Art raceway my pops says. Looks like a good place to host some Nostalgia Drags in 2005. Just about 5 minutes from my place. I am pretty excited myself.
Right on! Do you know if it's gonna be 1/4 mile or 1/8 mile? I dig yer idea of the Nostalgia Drags event... We'll just need to make sure that the timing equipment can measure MINUTES if I run my car!!!
Looks like ANOTHER good excuse to go see my little bro... Hello, American Airlines, how much for a round trip to Dallas? Jay
I'm pretty sure this is the track that Kenny Barnes is supposed to build. I heard that it's not a real sure deal, but you know ho rumors are. Aren't there enough tracks around the Dallas area-Kennedale, Denton, and Yellabelly if you're brave or crazy enough. Kennedale used to put on a nosalgia deal, but I don't know if they still do. Back to work, Larry T
Yea its a done deal , they are already doing the dirt work and he says it will be open july 4th for something !!!! He tried to buy all the tracks you said except yellabelly and it always had some kind of added bs.
Whatever happened to building a new track around Grand Prairie?we where at Ennis about 2 years running the vw drags,& billy said he was going to build a new track over there & bulldoze Ennis.I can't understand why other than that suicide crosswind at the end of the grandstands, man you really know it at 130 mph or more in a 1200lb car.It wants to switch lanes bad!!!!
I'm pretty sure he wanted to get closer to the Metroplex to attract non-dragracing events like concerts and some of the stuff that Bruton Smith has. He was also trying to get the city, county, or ????? to help foot the bill like they do for sports arenas. Didn't happen. This is just what I picked up for looking and listening. I haven't talked to anyone involved in the deal, so again, take it for what it's worth. That's about .00000002. Larry T

He is fighting with IHRA . They dont wont a complete concrete strip like Ennis. Says its to dangerous. He wonts concrete .
Drove by there yesterday, Looks like about three loads of rock was dumped. Tractors were working the rock on the driveway area. The whole place seems like it is still ready to pour at any minute. The have also put up alot of fences etc. It appears to be going in the rite direction. Everything will be done when the first race is put on. that may take 10 years who knows but atleast you wont be walking around in mud when they do start. Rusty
