Hey Fellas, First off let me apologize for being a little OT on this one. I was given a stack of old car prints about half are standard "this is a 1937 Cord" style pictures. However, 17 of them are prints by Frank Wootton, most of these are amazing watercolors of early race cars and exotic Euro sports cars! I can't find any information on these other than Frank Wootton was best know for watercolors of planes during WWII. Any help would be greatly appreciated. All of the prints date from 1958 or 1959 and below the pictures have this line: "COPYRIGHT 1958 (or 9) SPORTS CAR PRINTS NEW YORK, N.Y." and are eight inches by ten an three quarter inches. I can only find a little info on Wootton and no info on "Sport Car Prints" Thanks in advance for any help. This is a scan of the MONACO Grand Prix print.
Great find! Wootton was indeed an outstanding illustrator, both of aircraft and cars. When I went to Art Center in '59, his "How to Draw Cars" book was one of the best I ever found. I ***ume you've Googled his name, as well as "Frank Wooton prints" and various other word combinations? What else are you hoping to find about him?
Frank Wootton is a legend in the aviation art world but also was very successful as a landscape painter. I have admired him deeply since I was a child. Always wished I could paint with his skill and depth of awareness. Can you post some more scans of his paintings? I would love to see more. Joel
Hey Fella's here is a few more. I'll be gone for the weekend but I'll upload some more early next week if you guys want. I was hoping to find out how many different prints were put out by Sports Car Prints and if they are worth much. Have a great weekend!
